News & Notes From Around PioNation

The Schenectady Daily Gazette mentioned that Versus is discussing the possibility of televising regular-season college hockey games on cable, beginning in January. What conferences would be involved, or what night the games would be shown (either Friday or Saturday) is unclear right now. Versus, part of the NBC Sports Group, is the cable home of the NHL. Versus has been prominently mentioned as a cable partner for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference that DU will join in 2013.

Congrats to the University of Denver men's swimming and diving team who collectively posted a 3.44 grade-point average, the best of all NCAA Division I swimming programs.  The 3.44 GPA was .04 better than Harvard and Boston College. Sixteen Pioneers, men and women, were honored by the CSCAA as honorable mention Scholar All-Americans. The DU women's 3.43 GPA was good for a tie for 24th place.

The Bleacher Report has named the University of Denver the 3rd greatest college hockey program of all-time.  DU was ranked behind #2 North Dakota and #1 Michigan, but ahead of such schools as Wisconsin and Minnesota.

  3. I would rate Mich. no 5 and raise the other four up one spot. Six of Mich's. championships were from 1948(the first Tournament) through 1958. During those early years(somebody won it in 57 but I can't remember-anybody know who?) there were few good college hockey programs, compared to the present, with Mich and the Ivies the best of the bunch. The competition to win the NCAA was much slimmer than it now is.In the last forty or so years they have won three.
The league they played in over the last thirty plus years does not measure up to the WCHA or the eastern B.C.,B.U. league.
In fact, I would rate them below B.C. and B.U.

  4. I wouldn't discount UM's early titles from the 50s. Just because there were less teams back then doesn't make it was easier to win. Back then, the talent was just more concentrated, just like the six team NHL era. Nobody thinks winning a Stanley Cup back then was easier than winning a Cup today,

Any team that's ever won an NCAA title has earned it.

I agree with everything you say. But my point is that the teams of the last thirty or so years were better then the fifty teams and that is what the rating is: the best teams.Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

  14. Mexico, you must face reality someday. Mediocrity is not a disease although in the case of CC it is incurable.

Sorry but I've been eliminated from the conversation...

I'm sure that "boned his dog" does a nice job. He's never done shoes but he can polish a knob with the best of them. I'm sure it's a similar skill set.

  22. We really can't do any better than a trailer park joke?

  23. Nope, I think bad tasteless jokes is all you girls have. FYI - I heard kids at Metro and even DPS have better jokes. They tried to share them but your noises were in the air...
