The University of Denver scored five goals in the second period to break open a physical contest with the University of Nebraska-Omaha at Magness Arena. DU walked away with a 7-3 victory.
What is becoming apparent is that this young hockey team can score a lot of goals in a hurry. Friday night marked the third time in the last five games at Magness Arena that DU scored at least four goals in a period.
And while this might be the most explosive Pioneer team in the Gwozdecky era, the scoring load is being distributed evenly among the troops. Nick Shore had two goals, while S. Ostrow, J. Mermis, Knowlton, LaLeggia and Drew Shore also scored.
Chris Knowlton has three goals in just four games this season.
ReplyDeleteIn recent weeks, his spark has brought what has been missing for years; third-line scoring.
Pretty amazing turnaround from the doghouse to the penthouse.
His linemates: Mermis has two goals & three assists and Jackson has four assists and is winning the battles along the boards
Although it didn`t matter at all in this game, Denver has not scored a third period goal for five straight games.
ReplyDeleteOstrow is his centreman and he is having a good start too with three goals and three assists. George said that they are suppose to be the checking line and they keep contributing while checking the other teams top line
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. Ostrow has been a new man this season.
ReplyDeleteA sweep is absolutely required.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or does Drew Shore seem to not be taking face offs anymore...I noticed quite a lot of guys doing them last night except for him
ReplyDeleteAfter a lackluster 1st period the Pios found their legs and the floodgates opened. These guys are really good when they move their feet and work hard.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to drill that kid Hudson for UNO tonight. He was taking runs at everyone last night, and that hit on Knowlton in the 3rd was borderline cheap.
Helping the Pios was the sloppy defense that Omaha played. They looked like the ones that were up all night studying for finals, not D.U.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Twister. Hudson needs some payback and thinking Ryder will deliver. Larraza might want to keep his head up tonight too as his hit that was penalized was high.
ReplyDeleteGreat scoring. Defense stepped up. Adam took his ritalin. An impressive win. Got to get two more points tonight. And put Hudson's dik in the dirt.
ReplyDeleteHudson's major penalty was cheap, ya think?
ReplyDeleteHudson wears the refs down. You don't want to call him every time he's on the ice, even though you could.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction - UNO gets a power play goal called off for Huson's interference with the goalie.
DU needs to keep working hard and grind out the sweep.
ReplyDeleteThese games during finals are always a distraction and have low attendence, too. Get it done, Pios.
It would be the best thing ever if UND stayed right there at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteThe jealousy continues.
ReplyDeleteThe abysmal crowd at Magness was downright EMBARRASSING.
ReplyDeleteany report on Murray?
ReplyDeleteHeard Murray could have a left leg injury of some sort. Replace in the game by Juho.
ReplyDeleteMurray and Ryder both out tonight with lower body injuries.
ReplyDeleteRyder caught a puck in the leg.
Murray left the ice putting no weight on his left leg...
ReplyDeletePostgame: Gwozdecky was not optimistic that Murray would be available next week.
ReplyDeleteHope he's ok.
