Former Secretary of State and DU alumna Condoleezza Rice toured DU on Monday, making stops in two International Studies classes to lecture on upcoming threats to the international system and then to conduct a question-and-answer session at the Cable Center at 6 p.m.
An audience of nearly 700 people attended the question-and-answer event at the Cable Center, which was not open to the public to hear Rice recount her political experience and career [read entire article].
Condi was in Denver to watch Stanford Women in the Final Four.

When I was the chair of a jury,many moons ago, I instructed the members that I was responsible for organizing and keeping things flowing in an orderly manner but when I expressed my opinion it was not to have any more importance than any other member. Samo ,samo here. D.G. wears two hats: 1.he runs the blog
2.he is an equal member. Get It?

I'm afraid being chancellor at DU is too small for Condi. She identifies with Stanford, just as the stupid media do when mentioning her CV. It's not that I wouldn't love to have her. And that her presence on campus wouldn't inure to the benefit of the university. Sadly, I believe facts is facts, and it strikes me as extremely unlikely we'd ever land her. Lord, give it a shot. And I'd love to eat crow. But it just doesn't seem realistic.
ReplyDeleteIf you think DU is a snobby boyz club, its nothing compared to Stanford. Condi's got a gorilla glass ceiling in Palo Alto because of her association with Bush and her lack of pedigree in Silicon Valley.

High profile university presidents can make $1 million these days, so if DU wants her they need to get serious and get into the game.

ReplyDeleteThe job she says she's interested in is Commissioner of the NFL. Well, the way Goodell's going, that job's not going to be available for a while. We don't even know if she's interested in a university job, do we? Let's take a run at her. She might even succeed in getting the Gary Hart presidential library located on campus. What a feather that would be!
ReplyDeleteA poster of Condi and Boone arm wrestling would be priceless. And she would certainly be in a position to hook us up with some big cigars. Besides, what's the worst thing that could happen? She might say "no." So put together a package and make a pitch.
