Wow, you must really follow DU hockey closely. I don't even remember this "pathetic" outing vs. UND last year. Thank you, though, for following our team so diligently! I can assure you that I'll do whatever I can, to make sure that our hockey team never again looks pathetic on TV.

Is there any consideration or possible delta built into this, for the NHL Lockout? What the hell are all those Avalanche fans going to watch all year long? Will there be some "emergency" programming, in case we get to January - and there's no NHL????
It will be nice for people who post here and on USCHO to actually see the game rather than make comments from what Jay Stickney told them happened. I love Jay and he is truly entertaining but when people that didn’t even see the game make wild accusations about hits or injuries from the broadcast they are anything but credible.
I was sittin’ in my lazyboy and just opened my second bottle of Crown Royal for the evening when Jay said that the North Dakota player just threw himself into the boards unassisted and DU got called for a penalty. This is an outrage! In my day this would have never happened! I remember when …. yada, yada, yada.

I'll agree that you can't judge hits/injuries from a radio broadcast, but many of the games are either on TV or on Pioneer Vision...a vast majority of the time you can get a better view of a play on TV with the different angles and slow motion. I really don't see what point you are trying to make???
Pioneer Vision has multiple professional Root Sports cameras with slo-motion, much as you would see the game on TV. It is one of the better Internet telecasts in college hockey.

DU fans DO show up for games - 117,000 of them last year.
ReplyDeleteWe were #12 in NCAA attendence last year out of 58 teams, with an average attendence of over 5,300 fans per game, 89% of capacity.
DU ranked ahead of schools such as UNH, BU, Notre Dame and Vermont, to name a few.
DU also has the second highest average ticket prices in the country after Minnesota.
We're doing fine at the gate.
The reason DU has three NBC games at Magness has everything to do with timezone and market size.

Someone mentioned on another site that DU and UNO are willing to pick up the production costs, so NBC Sports only has to fly in the announcers.
