Menard To Fly Hourly Workers To North Dakota

(above) Hardware store manager Larry Boutiltier has had a hard time finding employees in North Dakota
From: Associated Press

Home improvement retailer Menard Inc. says it will hire workers from its home base in Wisconsin and fly them to North Dakota to staff a store in Minot, which is near the state’s booming oil patch and because so many people had previously left the state.

The company said in a statement that it plans to hire 50 workers in Eau Claire, Wis., where it has its headquarters, and fly them weekly to Minot, which is also in the middle of an unprecedented building boom as it recovers from record flooding last year.

Menard, which has more than 200 stores in the Upper Midwest, said this would be the first time it has ferried in workers by airplane, but it believes jetting in employees for weeklong stints and housing them in hotels “is going to be a permanent solution for as far as we can see.”

“We were able to stay staffed with the oil boom, and then the flood happened,” Graef said. “Now, we’re trying to get ahead of both of those.”

Finding workers to keep up has been tough, he said.

“Everybody has a ‘now-hiring’ sign in their window,” Graef said.

Businesses struggle to attract workers throughout North Dakota, which has some 22,000 more jobs than takers and the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, at 2.4 percent, Job Service North Dakota data show. The unemployment rate in Minot is 2.3.

  1. DG.... Your caption is pretty over the line. I know your trying to bait people into coming over here, but come on. This is bullshit.

  2. So 2.3 unemployment is a problem? Your an idiot, DG.

  3. That's more like it.

First I try and drum up a little tourism in North Dakota and then extol the virtues of the oil boom...

  8. There it is folks. Anon 10:55. Typical little DU pussy! Assuming you have a trust fund(which I highly doubt), I am sure your daddy is proud is so proud that he dropped 150k on your DU education so you could becomae a salesman like everyone else. F-off pussy.

  9. Rest assured, DG has slipped into a deep depression after Hostess went under.

  13. Even with all the drinking we do up here we still manage to turn a profit as a state. You enjoy your beautiful mountains and vegan diets, and we'll keep paying taxes to support you leeches.

  14. if u ain't a DU fan, stay off this blog. If you are on this blog then you are automatically sub consciously or consciously a DU fan.

    ReplyDelete
  15. UND fans may not be the best spellers, but I can at least see my feet while standing. Something DG may struggle with. DG should spend more time working on getting rid of his FUPA, then posting about another teams drinking issues.

  16. @ Anon 11:27...

sorry dude...this is the UND blog this week. Good luck getting your points accross. As for sub consciously being a DU fan....HAHAHAHAHA.

  17. Nodak fans take insecurity to a new level. Losers. They think toilet seats make good picture frames and consider a 6-pack and a bug zapper to be high quality entertainment.

  19. To the UND fan making fun of DU kids with trust funds, while at the same time touting the great economy in North Dakota...do you not see the irony?

Probably not. Hint, neither of them did anything to get their fortunes other than be in the right place at the right time.

You've been sitting on that one for at least six months, haven't you?

  21. @ Douchebag Anon 11:48...

Look at a map. GF is on the eastern side of the state, the oil bool is in the west. From a tax standpoint, the state has done well during the oil boom. Having said that, ND has never had an issue balancing it's books. Unemployment has always been low here.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love how you're referring to all UND fans as red necks, hicks, losers...etc.....and in the same breath your asking them to please not troll. Give me a break. If you want UND fans to leave the blog, have a discussion about your own team. Trust me, nothing will bore us more. If you keep posting articles bashing the State of North Dakota, then expect us to dominate your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah - you guys still come in here when we are discussing our team...

  30. This gets better by the minute. North Daota fans know more about English grammar than the Associated Press.

Google "menard associated press" and you'll see that they rolled the story out nationally in dozens of newspapers as "Menard."

  31. I am right here boys. You know what else can I possibly add that has not already been said about ND and life in the vast wasteland. Remember, they never bring recruits to GF during the day, they never check to see if they have any felony convictions and they certainly don't require SAT scores above room temperature.

  32. Year after year same old b!thcing, leave it on the ice boys, and yes UND has the edge in the last few years final five two years in a row, NCAAs two years ago. BUT now is a new year, let the game decide who is better, OK. oh and ya i would consider moving to denver after this years election...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well said, same arguements getting old, leave it on the ice. Do you guys (DU) fans get this much love from UM or CC?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Way to edit the first paragraph of the article.

The only thing you should be trimming to the way you see fit is your waistline DG.

DU sucks and DG swallows. GO UND!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have no problem with this being a UND blog this week. It's sorta cute. But do me one favor. .... All you jerktards PLEASE stick around after this weekend and BE SURE to talk about the scores after each game , so everyone knows how badly Denver kicked your hillbilly asses!!! If you do that. .... I might respect you. Well wait; no I won't. Goons, drunks and losers describes you.

  36. Pardon me, I misspoke. I should have said "lying gutless asshole."

  38. Swallow – that would be a perfect mascot for UND after the citizens voted out the last one.

  39. 2:49, not even close. We are mostly cordial with Minn. I think a large reason is that we haven't really had to play them in too many "big" games. I'm probably forgetting something, but I can't even recall one game in the Final 5 or NCAAs in the last decade.

The banter with CC has seemed to die down over the years too on the Internet. Its more good natured ribbing. Although, it's a different story if you actually go down to the World Arena and encounter wasted ignorant hockey "fans" that only show up for the two DU games every year (I'm sure they would say the same thing about coming up to Magness).

With all that said, I don't think DU has a bigger rival than UND right now. Nobody I'd rather beat more, and nobody that it stings more to lose to.

Hopefully we can find some time to talk hockey between all the trolling, we've got some great hockey games coming up this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm a UND fan and couldn't agree more with Anon 2:49's comments. Our traditional rival is MN just like your traditional rival is CC. The UND-DU rivalry has to be the hottest in the WCHA right now. So many big games over the past decade and sadly, so many big hits on both sides. Nothing better then talking shit over the actual games/results, but both side could probably tone down the non-hockey trash talk.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm not gonna argue with you anymore on the Menards thing. I don't even shop there. I prefer Lowe. ROFL!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The extent of the dialogue here is overblown. With this anonymous posting, it is probably a group of 3 or 4 idiots who post their drivel.

That's OK, though. All is good. I'm currently in my office, looking at the beautiful Colorado mountains in the distance, and sipping my coffee from my coffee mug that says something about BACK TO BACK DU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2004 and 2005. Bet the North Dakota fans wish they had one of those. Instead, they have trucker hats emblazoned with "2004 and 2005 back to back also-rans."

    ReplyDelete
  43. This should shut up both DU and NoDak fans.

  48. Big question is who is Gwoz going to "code red"

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's really nothing new to shuttle workers in and out of that part of the country. Oil and gas companies do it all day everyday.....oddly enough, Denver is a big city for energy production companies. Doing so also supports private aviation and small business.

  50. A few thoughts before this weekend...

    Q. What do you call a bus load of UND hockey players driving off a cliff?
    A: Out of state.

    Q. Why did the UND hockey player cross the road?
    A. To f*** a chicken

    Q. Why did the chicken cross the road?
    A. To get away from the UND hockey player!

    Q. How many UND players does it take to change a light bulb?
    A. Four. Three are in the penalty box.
