  1. Jackolope or Robot would be awesome and innovative compared to the black-eyed soulless creepy cartoon child with a beard.

  2. Jackalopes and robots have nothing to do with Pioneers. You faiil.

    ReplyDelete
  3. any word on what the "mountaineer" looks like? if it looks like a settler of the west, that is easily the best option. the rest could be VERY bad... robot? seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  4. the mountaineer looks like, well, kinda like this guy: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100807143354/wowwiki/images/e/ee/Dun_Morogh_Mountaineer.jpg

  5. A few minor tweaks and these become more palatable. For instance, place Boone’s giant styrofoam head on the Mountaineer or have the male & female climbers a wear togas!

  6. Why not an astronaut? A modern Pioneer.

  7. With all the hoopla building for support of the NBA player "coming out" --the new hot item is BEING GAY. Whatever mascot is selected make him gay, even if it's the jackalope ,robot, dog-- whatever.
Gay is the way to go.

    That's it! Make Boone gay

  9. Mustang? I see a legal storm with Ford Motor Company - which DU will never win. However, there might be a tag line there "hung like a horse".

Jakalope - Too late; there's a CHL team in Odessa Texas - and besides, it looks like a satanic Easter Bunny.

Golden Lab - This could be the answer, people! May bode well for the Basketball programs. Can you say "MOVIE DEAL"? Punches our ticket for a major role in the next Air Bud sequel. Plus, our "Dawg" could shit on CC and UNO and lift it's leg on North Dakota. Take this and run with it.

Male and Female climbers - too sexist. How will we know which is which? What if the female is Butch? Without the prong and the testes.....there's just too many questions.

Mountaineer - DUMB. Too much like Boone. Who says a girl can't be a Mountaineer? However, another movie deal for a remake of "Deliverance" should be thought out. Just too bad we don't have a river that leads to Aintry; could be a deal breaker.

Elk - kind of ironic that a Mountaineer shoots, kills and eats an Elk. But I guess a Mountaineer would eat a Jakalope or a Mustang as well. Too confusing.

  10. I think the list speaks for itself. Be afraid, be very afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. What about a Rock. As in, Rocky Mountains. But the Rock should not be animated in any way because then it would look sexist or rapey.

  12. The corner is getting more constricting. The hole is getting deeper.

  13. All human mascots are out. I can't believe DU is even considering one. Under the same logic Boone haters apply to Boone, all humans are sexist, racist and non-inclusive at the end of the day. We will eventually run into the same problem as Boone with any of these human choices. I hope DU has the foresight to take this into account.

Animals are dumb choices. We tried a bird. That failed. All of these other animal choices were already passed over as the next mascot
back in 1998. Sloppy animal seconds.

A robot sounds like the most absurdly stupid mascot I could ever imagine.....and, somehow gets my vote out of this list. Good Lord.

  14. Once the new mascot has been "democratically" chosen, will fans wearing Boone gear be denied access to Magness? Will they be subjected to cavity searches? Will students "caught" wearing Boone gear on campus be subjected to disciplinary hearings, with "repeat offenders" facing possible expulsion? Will students living in university housing be subject to stand down inspections, where Boone gear and images will be confiscated? And what about computers and social media? Will goalies be required to display the new mascot on their masks?
I guess the question I'm asking is: just how far are the gauleiters of political correctness prepared to go? I'm guessing all the way.

  15. They preach inclusiveness and practice exclusiveness.
    Egg head hypocrites personified!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wait, more inclusive: A robot dog mountaineer with horns!

  17. I hear Jason Collins is looking for a job, we can have him be our new mascot. Nobody can say we don't support diversity then, and we'll have a mascot who is a true pioneer. Something DU doesn't know much about anymore.

  18. Robot, but only if it's Bender from "Futurama" smoking a cigar and drinking a beer.

  19. Whoever or whatever is the selection just be sure he ,she, or even it is gay.
Gay is now the new "in thing". It's hot to be gay.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Southern Methodist Univ. mascot is the Mustang.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It’s not like 10:47 said Jason Collins should be the mascot because he’s black, a Muslim or because of his gender. If 10:47 did that then they would be called a racist or would be accused of encouraging DU to have a mascot in white robes and a hood.

  22. Congratulations, DG ...... You attract the best minds to your blog.

  23. I expect about 2-3 more of the mascot finalists to be dropped prior to public testing. Don;t think they want to test all seven.

I am hoping that animals take the brunt of the cuts.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don't cut the jackalope!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. What, specifically is a Jackalope anyway ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. According to Wikipedia, it is a "fearsome critter" yet mythical.

    ReplyDelete
  27. we should get super mythical and have a seajackalope

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't give the Trustees any more ideas ... they may think these creatures are real! lol.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jackalope is the winner. No doubt about it. Who wouldn't want one on a T-shirt or coffee mug? Especially with a little red vest and a bow tie.

And...we can't have Robots or climbers on our boys' sweaters!

    ReplyDelete
  30. What does a jackalope do? Is it like an elk that just eats grass and sleeps?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jackalopes do the stuff that bunnies and antelope can only dream of on their own. They are a pretty serious hybrid of only the best features those two species bring. Just don't look them straight in the eye, they can be some ferocious little rascals.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My fav part of the jackalope was the brand story that talked about the signature move: the "jack attack" which consists of three hops and some kind of arm movement that's close to flipping someone off but not exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am afraid I cannot support a mustang, as I have relatives who were injured in the corral by wild mustangs; that would offend. A Jackalope is a fictional creature, but I am terrified of them as they represent satanism at its worst, the sick combining of animals in terrifying combinations. My little Pom dog is afraid of the golden retriever next door, so would be offended by that. Of course, Robots would bring to mind the horrific carnival robot on Scooby Doo that chased the kids mercilessly. Male and Female climbers, together, at the same time? What kind of message would that send to the youth in the world, I mean, where do the two of them sleep on the mountain? Lets not even think about a mountaineer and their vicious pick axes and ropes, scary rape type stuff. And all I know of elk, stay out of their way during the rut. Disgusting public displays of reproduction!

  34. Off topic, but the Dubuque Fighting Saints, under Head Coach Jim Montgomery, are preparing for a winner take all game on Saturday with Youngstown for the right to play in the USHL finals. After a hot start to the series, the Saints have up the last 2 games to The Phantoms. Season is on the line for one of these teams. Should be exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. May the 'Power of the Jackalope' be with Coach Jim.

  36. The corner gets tighter, the hole gets deeper. Keep digging selection committee.

  37. Agree with the previous poster.

Coombe & his staff thought this was going to be a slam dunk. Roll out the Elk costume & get a few complaints online.

But some big mistakes were made along the way. Emailing the alumni [twice] with misleading statements was easily the dumbest move of all time.

More fun times to come. Wait until everyone gets a look at the finalists.

Sometimes when try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one.

  38. Today a Washington pol. introduced a bill to change the name of the N.F.L. Washington redskins to the Washington Redtails.
Not a joke. google it up .

    ReplyDelete
  39. D.G.
Those statements were a bit more than misleading. They were flat out lies. maybe they could get away with that crap with college students but not with involved mature adult alums. They screwed up big time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We got a redtailed hawk costume we aren't using that we could send to the Redskins.

  41. Lies, lies? dearest leaders know they can cover up the true cost of the obama show last year, this is kids play

  42. Bozak expected to play tonight for the Leafs, first game of NHL playoffs.

  43. Brendan Loy, an unaffiliated blogger of Mile High Mids, said it best a long time ago when he stated that there was never a coherent argument presented by the anti-Boone faction. Lies just make it worse.

We all know why Boone is being eliminated - he is a white male. No one wants to be intellectually honest. That is the elephant in the room.

I work with a very diverse team (male/female, different ages and nationalities)and we make it work by honoring our differences as well as building on our common interests. None of us would ever think of taking away someones symbols, culture, or heritage, to advance 'diversity'.

At a University, they believe diversity is an 'end-state'. In reality, it is one ingredient that you add to other things such as technical skills, knowledge, teamwork and interpersonal skills to achieve success.

They have taken their eye off the ball and are going to pay a dear price. Take it from those of us on the outside, we know when we made a mistake, we admit it, and we do what has to be done to satisfy the customer. It is not difficult - and it actually feels kinda good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If we ever talk hockey here again ... our man Beau Bennett kind of ripped shit up for the Penguins tonight and was amazing .. go Pios.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well stroked Tim 89.
In summary, their diversity religion achieves just the opposite. They infringe upon the rights of many because of their irrational "Can't hurt not even one persons feelings" goal which is completely unachievable.
They preach inclusiveness and achieve exclusiveness.

    anyones

  46. Sorry Tim but they don't care what you think. Stop wasting time posting on blogs and get a job. Once you've contributed a million or more they'll start listening.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not going to disagree that DU only cares about millionaires.

But I do think that the Petition, comments on Facebook and on LetsGoDU are increasing the chances of a compromise on the new mascot.

Two months ago the chances of DU introducing an animal mascot was probably 99%. Today it may be 50%.

If they can add some throwback touches to the new mascot that pay homage to Boone perhaps things can work out.

But the fact remains that the final decision on the mascot will be selected by Coombe and approved by the Board of Trustees. Not exactly confidence inspiring developments.

  48. Waa, waa, waa. What’s with all the negativity Timmy? Is your life so small that Boone’s official mascot status actually matters to you? Are so petty as to wish the students working on the new mascot ill? You’re beginning to sound like the bunch of old codgers and complainers that post here. You either have to be part of the solution, or you're going to be part of the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Funny, but I am just not getting the same vibe from Tim's post as you are, 10:27. Maybe the PC cocktail is not mixing well with your Adderall.

I've e-mailed the new USG elects with my thoughts and included the petition. So far, I've received two solid responses back. I think it's worth getting as many people we can to write this group and share our views:

    BRING BACK BOONE

    ReplyDelete
  50. True. Tim hasn’t gone down the path of a Crown Royal induced rant full of hate speech. Nonetheless, what’s the worst that can happen here? The students pick an odd mascot. So? Boone remains the unofficial mascot.

Worst case, DG puts the kibosh on the use of the costume. I don’t think the world will end.

So what is the best case scenario? Boone is recognized as the official mascot and DG doesn’t have to pay for the costume and travel?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sounds like Timmy had "binders full of women" to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't know what has more mythical power...

The jackalope or Timmy's rant. Tough one. I think I'm gonna take in a black and white cookie while considering it.
