  1. Boo... That's some BS.

I can't wait to see the mischief Boone will cause on campus this year.

  2. Its so ridiculous that Coombe continues to go down this path.

Keith Magnuson and every DU player wore a Boone sticker on their helmet in the 1969 NCAA Championship victory over Ken Dryden and Cornell. Probably the most famous victory in DU history.

And now Coombe institutes this policy???

    1. Why don't you get a bunch of Boone stickers printed up. We can put them all over Magness.

  3. Out of curiosity, are North Dakota goalies allowed to put a Indian Head/Blackhawks/Sioux logo on their masks?

I know we're getting into NCAA regulations here, but was just wondering...

  4. This is getting ridiculous. Though it should be noted that this is not the first time something like this has happened. I have heard that last year in the week leading up to the NCAA game against UNH, the administration made the goalies with Boone on their masks cover him up with stickers. This was done to ensure Boone would not be seen on national TV.

  5. Last season TV cameramen in Magness were told to not film Boone during games.

    Gestapo tactics.

  6. Next they're going to ban any Boone shirts or apparel from entering the building. Ridiculous!

  7. Poor Boone. No one loved him when he was official and now that he can feel the love, he continues to be banished. Boone can't win.

  8. Childish, sad and pathetic. And not surprising in the least.

  9. A fish rots from the head down...we all now where the problem is and what change needs to take place

Rudderless...A leader would be focused on fundraising, professor morale, student enrollment, and community engagement. Fail, Fail, Fail, Fail.

  10. The conversation...

Chancellor Von Coombe: Sam, what is the worst Mascot on this campus?
Sam: Well that would be hard to say, sir. They're each outstanding in their own way.
Chancellor Von Coombe: Cut the horsesh*t, son. I've got the web site right here. Who dropped a banner the size building at the National Lacrosse Championships? Who delivered the Harlem shake next to my office window? Every fall Goalies thumb their noses at me in a Boone mask. This past spring, even my grand kid signed the petition for I Support Denver Boone for Mascot of DU.
Sam: You're talking about DG, sir.
Chancellor Von Coombe: Of course I'm talking about DG, you TWERP! The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

  11. Boone stickers, tshirts, hoodies! Save Boone!!

  12. "Hence it seems reasonable that students and alumni be allowed to use the image as a celebration of that past, to the extent that they may choose."

  13. The whole Boone controversially is part of a brilliant PR campaign to keep DU in front of the media and public. The end result will come when we get invited to join the WCC, Missouri Valley or Mountain West

  14. I hope Straus is correct.

I am actually stunned that a university Chancellor would even think about a hockey goalie's mask. How trivial and embarrassing that Coombe would even take the time to care. Is this our "The Caine Mutiny?. In the book, a naval commander shut down his ship because there was a can of strawberries missing.

  15. It is more likely that the SGA vote prohibited his inclusion because university/student funds may be used to pay for the mask painting. If that's the case, I'll pay for a touch-up with Boone on it.

  16. Two weekends for outdoor college hockey at Fenway park in Boston next Feb. B.C., B.U., Maine, Notre Dame and two others.
How about one night four game set at Mile high? D.U., C.C., Air F., and one other.

  17. Outdoor games depend heavily on the Avs/NHL. With the Avs recent attendance woes, I'm not sure the timing is right.

  18. If they can stop that fat guy from appearing on camera in the too tight white Boone jersey, I'm in support of the concept.

  19. If DU admin was tryuing to energize students and alumni, they succeeded. Unfortunately for them, it was against their point of view.

Straus, I doubt if the WCC would invite a University with Chancellor Clown and his little Clownettes.

  20. BS? BS? It goes WAY beyond BS. Coombe is a liar, a deceiver, and moron. He is EVERYTHING that is wrong with DU, and with this country. Honestly, DU is doomed with him at the helm. I can only imagine what Ritchie is thinking. The students need to plaster the Ritchie center with Boone. Everywhere. Like a sea of Boone. This goes way beyond Boone.

  21. BE: you sound like Bluto from Animal House. This is meant to be a compliment. You may thank me very little.

  22. Viz,

Sounds like an overreaction for a mascot that doesn't even show up to hockey games. Wait, maybe that is the perfect representation of the DU student body.

  23. Read above what 9:30:00 posted. I thought Evan Is a student? Very confusing policy indeed.

  24. Ritchie started all this when he dumped Boone in 1998 and shoved Ruckus down our throats without consulting the DU community on either move. DU fans did not bitch much back then because we just built a new arena and Ritchie was popular. Ritchie hated Boone.

  25. Who cares. We need to focus all our energy on our new goalie now. This is Sam's last run. Evan is the future of DU goaltending.....and you better not give a hoot what's on his helmet. I'd be much more concerned about what's inside the helmet. BIG BIG hopes and plans for this guy!

  26. 1:28, I appreciate your comment but I am quite capable of caring about two things at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. And, of course, I care a heck a lot more about Sam and Evan than I do Boone.

This is just another embarrassing and wrong decision by the admin. I thought it was pretty cool that every goalie since Manno has had Boone on their helmet. A nice tradition that connects every DU goalie to their predecessors. Think how much cooler it would have been 40 years from now to have that connection.

I'm surprised these liberal nutjobs haven't gotten rid of the orange lemon contest yet for being too divisive.

  27. 10:11, I think This has been debated before. I thought the general consensus amongst ice maintenance professionals around these parts was that it would be cost prohibitive to make suitable ice, in an appropriate location....because of the weather here. We're too damn close to the sun, and not enough fans would buy tickets. Sure it CAN be done.....but at Sports Authority Field? ? Lots and lots of money.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Weather is no issue. They have played NHL exhibition hockey in a Las Vegas parking lot when it was 90 degrees out.

The big challenge is cost - the out door rink cost is about $250,000 to set up and operate for a week.

  29. And when did LetsgoDU come back? I had deleted it from my bookmarks until today.

  30. Also, the Sun is at its lowest in January-so is the weather. Ice melt is minimized.

  31. It's official!! hockey season has started.
    Tickets arrived Saturday

  32. The problem with outdoor hockey in Denver in January isn't the technical feasibility of the project - it's the cost and the fact that projecting anything more a 1/2 full Mile High Stadium is beyond ambitious.

With three schools and MAYBE 25,000 combined serious and casual fans spread out along the front range, college hockey alone can't support such an effort; and the Avs have been beyond terrible for the majority of the last decade, so excitement surrounding their on ice product is at an all time low.

In the late 90s - early 00s, it could have worked. Now, no way.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The problem the Avs have is twofold: lousy team and ridiculous ticket prices. A decent seat is about 100 bucks plus. No way!

I'll take D.U. at 19, or is it a bit higher this year?

  34. DU's Colleen King named offensive player of the week. What did she say? Did her support of Boone get her in hot water?
