The University of Denver, led by Trevor Moore's two goals, defeated Air Force on Saturday night at Magness Arena.

It was a bittersweet night as long-time Associate Head Coach appeared for the final time on the bench in Magness Areana.  On Jan. 1st he will begin his duties as head coach and GM of the Madison, Wisconsin expansion franchise in the USHL.

DU Hockey Fan Turns To Food Blogging

This weekend when the University of Denver hockey team is smoking the University of Minnesota, what would be better than grilling up Gopher Burgers?

DU hockey fan CO14ers has all the recipes and its OK to substitute ground squirrel for gopher (they're hard to find in Colorado) according to his new blog, Todd's Culinary and Other Adventures.

It will be interesting to see what he does with fresh Alaskan Seawolf next season.

What is Darvin Moon going to do with his new fortune? "Put it in the bank," said the lumberjack who came in second place at the World Series of Poker.

It was a characteristically plain-spoken response from the 46-year-old from rural Maryland who had never flown in a jet plane before coming to Las Vegas in July to play -- and eventually beat -- many of the world's greatest poker players.

WCHA Blogger Profiles DU Fan CO14ers

This may be the end of the internet as we know it. They have finally run out of things to write about.

Minnesota Duluth blogger Running With The Dogs profiled DU hockey fanatic CO14ers this week. The interview takes a long time to read and would not have been all that interesting, except that they spent a lot of time trashing your favorite blogger. No not Mike Chambers, me.

Actually the interview is pretty funny if you know and love CO14ers as much as we do. If you'd like to meet him, go to Spanky's before any DU home game and ask any waitress in a loud voice, "I'm here to deliver a subpoena, but I can't make out this name" and show it to her an envelope. CO14ers will be the first customer heading to the door.

We found out CO14ers is 43 years-old today. Its his birthday and everybody deserves to be a "King For A Day."

Philanthropist (he donated money for the Spanky's Pep Rally), traveler (He makes it to an out of town DU hockey series each year), mountain climber (claims to be, but we can't find any living witnesses) and all-round good guy (will defend Denver supporters assaulted by CC fans).

Over 260 Students, Alums & DU hockey fans showed up at Spanky's Roadhouse for a Saturday afternoon pep rally to kick off the opening of hockey season. A vast majority of attendees were students who responded to the DU Grilling Society Facebook Invitation [more photos of the event are posted on the Facebook Invite]. What does it say about a university who's most pro-active spirit organizations are its hockey blog and BBQ team?

The students had a great time designing posters to take to the game. Many of the students walked away with Spanky's gift certificates donated by DU hockey fan CO14ers. The students practiced a few cheers, chowed down on burgers and mingled with alums.

Minnesota State Senator and former DU hockey player Dave Tomassoni said a few words and reminded the students how lucky they were to witness games in beautiful Magness Arena. LetsGoDU presented Senator Tomassoni with a "Bring Back Boone" T-shirt to wear to Gopher games back home.

Thanks go out to Kent, Tom, Steve, Todd, Brenda, Nick, & Jason and the many, many others who helped promote and organize the event. The Spanky's staff was fantastic and even showed some school spirit by wearing the T-shirts and designing special "Boone Menus" for the event.

DU Fans Escape From St. Cloud Alive...Barely

When Rhett Rakhshani went on a three goal scoring spree in St. Cloud last Saturday night he could not have imagined that he was putting the lives of two hard core DU hockey fans on the line. But as the game swung in DU's favor, our fans were suddenly the focus of 6,000 angry losers who wanted to vent their frustration.

Of course matters weren't helped when CO14ers threw his "DU Hockey" hat onto the ice after Rakhshani's third goal. Who knew that this type of spontaneous celebration was frowned upon in the "State Of Hockey?"

As the Husky fans were booing them, the whole student section started chanting "Asshole" and pointing at our boys. Things reached a fever pitch when Blizzard, the SCSU mascot, stood behind them with his arms crossed and shaking his head as the clock wound down to 00:00.

DU Defeats Mystery, Alaska 5-2
Even with Russell Crowe and Burt Renyolds, the boys from Mystery, Alaska were no match for the Mighty Pioneers. DU scored twice in the first 1:17 and then went on cruise control the rest of the game to score a 5-2 victory. This one was basically over in the first minute of the game. Nobody was more relieved than CO14ers who stood to give the old credit card a workout if DU had won by six goals.

Tom May got the ball rolling with a slick goal that may or may not have been an ESPN highlight after the game, but with 10 TV's in a sports bar who can really tell. Congratulations to the #1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers who did make SportsCenter due to their loss to Michigan Tech. This is exactly the kind of publicity college hockey needs to become a mainstream sport, so keep choking Badgers.

DU's new goal scoring sensation J.D. Corbin scored for the second game in row on a power play. Patrick Mullen also added a tally that was assisted by J.P. Testwuide. It was J.P.'s third collegiate point. The Dynamic Duo of Matt Carle & Ryan Dingle rounded out the scoring.

Congratulations to Puck Swami who was the only person coaching the team from the Gold Club. Crys of, "Skate boys," "weak effort" and "that power play was horrible," could be clearly heard over the munching of popcorn by the wealthy DU Alums.
