Butler Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore earns league honor after netting two goals at Ice Breaker

MADISON, Wis. - University of Denver defenseman Chris Butler, who made a strong contribution at both ends of the ice in the Ice Breaker Invitational held last weekend in Oxford, Ohio, has been named Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 10-16, 2007.

A 6-1, 185-pound sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., Butler earned all-tournament team honors on defense in two games against host Miami and Colgate after scoring two goals, blocking four shots, contributing five hits and putting five shots on goal.

A Buffalo Sabres' (NHL) draftee and a member of the 2006 All-WCHA Rookie Team, Butler scored in the third period in the Pioneers' 5-2 setback to Miami last Friday (Oct. 6) before netting a game-tying, power-play goal in Denver's 3-2 victory over Colgate last Saturday (Oct. 7).
