College Hockey News Editor Adam Wodon wanted to add some biting humor to his Website. After an intensive negotiating session, the LetsGoDU Board of Directors reached an agreement with CHN that a column named "CHN's The Penalty Box" would be penned once a week.
The column is named after the legendary Penalty Box Bar (photo above) in Boston, located next to the Fleet Center. The bar holds many memories for DU fans during the miraculous Frozen Four Run in 2004.
The first article this week is the ever popular "Love Story."

Is that Todd in that picture? Why is he carrying a purse?
Is that Todd? Yes. Why is he carrying a purse? Good question.
So I take it thats an actual bar in Denver.
The bar is in Boston. Before the Frozen Four the Duluth fans were making all kinds of noise about "taking over" the Penalty Box across from the Fleet Center.
We ended up getting to Boston a day before them, making friends with the owners and they hung a DU Frozen Four Shirt behind the bar (along with all the Bobby Orr photos). The UMD fans arrived, wanted the shirt taken down and were told to take their business eslewhere.
Congrats on the gig.
Thanks Whiskey. Its been interesting so far and hopefully it we can use the opportunity to expose evil and tyranny in college hockey (ie-Michigan).
That is a awesome Story, Boston is an awesome town, there was never a shortage of good bars, I lived in Mass after I got out of the Army in 1988. The town likes it hockey, hopefully the Bruins start winning soon.
By any chance was Drunk Hockey Guy one of the rubes thrown out of the bar?
I can't remember DHG's story specifically. One rough thing for the UMD cheerleaders and band was that they travelled out to Boston by bus. They arrived right before the game, watched the game in the afternoon and headed home that night. I can't remember if a group of UMD fans also traveled by bus.
Also, the UMD team had to go home the next morning after the game instead of seeing Junior Lessard win the Hobey.
Finally, I dont think UMD received any Revenue from the NCAA for the Frozen Four because they were Division II or something...
It's a man purse.
