by Jesse Watts

CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League today announced that defenseman T.J. Fast of the Tri-City Americans has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for March.

Fast, a product of Calgary, AB, scored two goals and added 11 assists for 13 points in nine games during the month of March, helping the Americans to an 8-1-0-0 record in that span.

The 19-year-old rookie rearguard, who joined the Americans in January after leaving Denver University, recorded points in eight consecutive games during the month of March. Fast also registered five multi-point games, and was the top-scoring defenseman in the WHL in March.

Wow, I guess a change of scenery can do wonders. Was it just me or was Fast completely unimpressive during his tenure here? I kept waiting for him to make an impact here but it never happened.

Stats for a defenseman jump up like crazy when you get on the Power Play.

Some have pointed to the fact that the Western Hockey League's players are mostly 17 & 18 with a few 19 years olds, while college hockey players are 18-24 years old.

DU didn't want him to leave, he wanted to leave us. His choice, but I do think that his departure was a factor in the late season collapse.

If you hit the "Fast" link in the index, you can find all the articles on his departure.

As always we wish nothing but the best to TJ in his future endevours. He played hard for a year and a half at DU and things didn't work out. Too bad for us and too bad for him.

I always liked him as a player and thought he was well on his way as a quality D-man. Obviously as a second round draft choice, he felt he needed to be further along in his development.

Thanks for the insight.

I didn't realize WHL players were that young. At any rate, hopefully TJ has a stellar pro career.
