Latest Bad Boy Dismissed From Michigan

From: Michigan Daily

Michigan coach Red Berenson announced Friday that freshman defenseman Kevin Quick has been dismissed from the team.

"This decision was made because Kevin violated our team rules and the trust of the team," Berenson said in a news release.

Quick was charged for identity theft, fraud under false pretenses and using a computer to commit a crime for “allegedly stealing his teammates’ bank account numbers,” according to The Ann Arbor News.

Quick was dismissed from the Michigan hockey team Feb. 1 for a “total violation of team trust,” but it wasn’t revealed until later that Quick had allegedly committed credit card fraud.

Court documents list the offense date as Nov. 30. Investigators believe Quick used the money to pay his own credit card debt and other expenses, including the fine for a traffic violation committed in the city, Stephenson said.

Police said Quick initially told team officials that he also was a victim of fraud, but the evidence showed otherwise.

The paper added Quick stole the credit card from his roommate. MGoBlue.com listed Quick’s roommate as freshman Carl Hagelin. A hearing is scheduled for March 12.

While at Michigan, Quick tallied two goals and two assists in 21 games. He primarily played alongside junior alternate captain Mark Mitera.

Since leaving the University, Quick signed with the Norfolk Admirals, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s American Hockey League affiliate. The Lightning drafted Quick in the third round a couple years ago and felt signing him was the best option for both parties.

However, it doesn’t appear that Quick has yet played. The Buffalo, N.Y., native is listed on the team’s roster online, but doesn’t have any registered stats yet.
