Newspaper accounts of "The Magness Massacre"

(left) Colorado College players celebrate after capturing the MacNaughton Trophy and the Gold Pan in Magness Arena last night

The Rocky Mountain News
"As if it was not humiliating enough for the Pioneers to watch their longtime rivals celebrate on their Magness Arena ice, the Tigers also retained the Gold Pan trophy for the second consecutive season."
The Colorado Springs Gazette
"The Tigers, who have lost just once in the past eight games against Denver, retained possession of the Gold Pan trophy for a second consecutive season and the ninth time in 15 seasons."
USCHO.com
“Hopefully we’ll be able to hoist it after a win tomorrow,” said Owens. “It’s the right thing to do, not to parade it around in their building. I have a lot of respect for Denver and that’s something I wouldn’t want to have done to me.”

10:08....DU is still a top 10 team, genius. If you don't think CC is a good team you need to clean out the manure between your ears.

For anyone watching the game on TV tonight I'll be on the glass in the DU attack twice zone with a "1957" banner!

Does anybody want to carpool from Denver?

Let's GO DU server down at 10:30 is it a malicious attack from a loser tiger person?

pretty class thing for owens to do

Yep, call me crazy, but even though CC is our biggest rival, I'd much rather see them hoisting the McNaughton than the Sioux.

Anon 10:08 true class. Atleast we are congratulating CC on their accomplishment. I seriously doubt if the situation was reversed that you would be doing the same thing.

all cc is 1008am is a bunch of phony effing fruit cakes.

I was really impressed with CC last night. That is not the same team that I remember seeing back in Nov. Initially I thought DU would match up the best against CC in a playoff regional, as opposed to UND or Michigan, but now I'm not so sure.

DU is now 6-8-1 since the holidays, if my math is correct. For the third year in a row a poor finish. I can't dismiss the schedule, because it has been very challenging. And Trotter's departure and Rueggs' injury have hurt, no doubt. But the bottom line is this team has been playing sub .500 hockey since the Denver Cup.

I thought DU played with good energy last night overall, but not the sustained energy that CC had. After Martin's goal made it 3-2 Rau puts two quickies away and that's the game. It just seemed like DU was step behind during some really important sequences. One has to wonder if (1) these guys are just out of gas this team of year (again), (2) perhaps the Pios just aren't as good as we think or their ranking suggests, or (3) something else i.e. complacency. I'd be curious what others think.

cc is a better team. Period. End of story. Quit trying to overanalyze it.

Just got back from the Springs. Clearly CC was the better team. They are now on top of the pairwise and will most likely be #1 in the poll Monday. Hats off to them for an excellent regular season. PP was awful again tonight--nearly as bad as Shepherd's officating. Same old crap frantic and unable to gain or maintain in the zone. One thing on the positive side tonight for DU was Chevy's goal tending--he was like a big old wall. I think it foreshadows an excellent couple of years ahead in the net.

I think that DU's fan base is weak when it comes to road support. I drive down there for the final regular season game and other than the students that were bused in there's
less than 20 fans! Why is it that people don't make the trip to support the team? I heard a CC fan say there were far more Gopher fans in the Springs during that game then DU fans tonight--0ne hour drive come on people!

I was surprised with the minimal DU fans as well, considering you are more likely to run into a DU alum here than a CC alum. And that officiating was TERRIBLE! Both ways, illogical and blind.

If its CC and ND in the Frozen 4 I hope CC spanks them.
