DU Alum Paul Stastny tore his medial collateral ligament in Game 3 of the NHL playoffs after a freak collision with Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk. That injury would have kept Stastny sidelined about four weeks, but the Avs season only lasted one more night. Stastny is expected to make a full recovery.
Stastny, a standout at the University of Denver for two seasons, signed a multi-year contract with the Avalanche, and was named to the NHL All-Star team in just his second season in the league.
