DU Athletic Department Survey On Boone Mascot

At LetsGoDU we support the return of the Denver Boone Mascot. In fact LetsGoDU has been calling for Boone's return since our very first article was posted on September 27, 2005. Since then, we've published dozens of articles and photos of players, students, alums and fans calling for Boone's return.

If you're a DU Alum, fan, student or parent and would like to see Boone return to DU, go to the survey link below

The article below is currently hosted on the DU Athletics Website

Calling all Pioneers!

There’s a rumbling on campus and the students are leading the charge. With the recent success of DU's athletic programs, efforts to mobilize DU school spirit are swirling. This energy has come together in a discussion about our university’s heritage and traditions, and at the core of that conversation has been the student identity of “Pioneers”. As part of this dialogue, student leaders from across campus (All Undergraduate Student Association, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Student Life, as well as a newly- formed DU History and Traditions Committee with student, staff and alumni representatives) have led to an evaluation of the Pioneer’s athletic mascot and what effectively represents a “Pioneer.”

The result has been a look into our history and the role of “Denver Boone", who served as the University's Pioneer Mascot from 1969-1999. The students are asking for your help as part of the Pioneer Community to share your voice on the subject of Denver Boone as a school mascot.

The attached survey link is brief and easy to complete. Your voice is very important to us. Please take a moment to let your voice be heard. Your experience as part of the Pioneer family is important to help us shape an enduring legacy.

Is that Swami?

dggoddard said...

Puck Swami has never been photographed.

Swami was a myth in the criminal world. As the story went, he was just a small-time Hungarian dope dealer. His enemies decided they wanted their own mob, they wanted more power. They realized that to get power, you only needed the will to do what they other guy wont. These "men of will" went to Swami's house to teach him a lesson - they raped his wife, then waited for him to return before killing one of his children before his eyes. "Then he showed these men of will what will really was." Rather then wanting to see his family live after this, he killed them himself. He shot his two children and his wife in the head, waited long enough to bury his family, and then went after his attackers. He kills their family and their friends, he burns down their houses and where they work. And then he disappears.

im a sioux fan, and i voted for boone. you owe me.

Actually. alive and well.

Funny you should mention Hungarians. I was in Budapest last week, and am in Prague right now.

Glad to see the committee pushing this forward. I know they were working on it for a while.

So I was raped, and then shot in the head??? Sounds like a very rough day. Thanks for thinking of me in such a gentle light. Nonetheless, I am enjoying being in Prague with the 'ghost' of Swami.

My only suggestion is to do a background check of Denver Boone going back to the 1800s. I would not want a marketing fiasco against your mascot or university. Are there any dark secrets that you don't want to come out? Were there any early pioneers that did devious things? Those are the questions that need to be answered before going forward. History Dept - get busy!

Swami,

Make sure you consume copious amounts of beer there. As you may or may not know, the Czechs have the best suds in the world.

Anonymous said...

Already been consuming plenty o' beer:

BEST SO FAR:

1) Dark beer at U fleku, a Prague Beer Hall and Brewery pumping it out cold since 1499.

2) Free Pilsner Urquell at Plzen Days celebration today at the Wallenstein Palace Gardens

3) "Budwar" is the orginal inspiration for American Budweiser

Anonymous said...

Not to nit pick but the original inspiration for Budweiser is the town of Budweis, Czech.

Budweiser Budvar didn't incorporate until 1895 and A/B or Budweiser started up in 1876.

The reason Budweiser Budvar can still use the name in many countries around the world is the name of the brewery and the beer relates to the place of its origin – the town of České Budějovice.

Julian Marcuzzi is the worst player on the team, and shouldn't be allowed to wear the crimson and goal sweater. He belongs in the DU club hockey organization.

Marcuzzi is related to this thread how?????

3 DU hockey players arrested on Saturday night for breaking and entering into an un-named fraternity house on campus. 4 other players to be charged with misdemeanors.

We'll just have to see if this story has legs. If true, I'm sure that the boyz we're probably on a late night "training run" and stopped by a fraternity house for a drink of water before hitting the weightroom at the Ritchie Center.

Here's a list of the 10 DU fraternities. We'll make a few discrete inquiries to see if we can get more information...

* Beta Theta Pi
* Chi Phi
* Kappa Sigma
* Lambda Chi Alpha
* Phi Kappa Sigma
* Sigma Alpha Epsilon
* Sigma Chi
* Sigma Lambda Beta
* Theta Chi
* Zeta Beta Tau

Lets not put the cart before the horse, but if true, this story could become problematic, not because players were arrested or could be suspended, but if the players were acting within some sort of loosely defined "fraternal organization" without proper supervision, controls or organizational boundries.

Name your source 3:11.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:11 appears to be the same jerk off who posted BS about Trotter and other players, as well as Bozak's "imminent" departure. This story appears to be completely fabricated by this same dip****.

dggoddard said...

Good.

Hard to believe that you can get arrested for doing anything in a fraternity house. I know I tried.

Anonymous said...

yeah, when did this happen?

on a lighter note, the NHL combine is this week and Joe Colborne will be attending. He shouldn't have any red flags, medically or character wise, so he should be looking to be selected between picks 13-28, depending on his workout. David Carle was not invited.

Anonymous said...

scratch that, David Carle will be attending the combine. sorry guys.

3:11....you are a major tool. Maybe it's time to move out of mom and dad's basement and get a job.

Anonymous said...

Come on, 3:11, have the stones to step up to the plate and name your source. Also, I'm beginning to think that 3:11 and 5:38's slam on Marcuzzi are the byproducts of the same pea brain.
