DU recruit Joe Colborne is now attracting the eyes of National Hockey League general managers.

Boston Bruins' GM Peter Chiarelli visited with the Kodiaks' forward this week in Cornwall. The Bruins have the 16th pick in the upcoming NHL Draft.

And Columbus Blue Jackets' GM Scott Howson arrived yesterday to watch the top prospect.

"He looks like he has lots of skill," said Howson. "He sees the ice really well. He has got some offensive instincts."

At six-foot-four and 195 pounds, Colborne is the national Junior A player of the year and is projected by some scouts to be a first-round pick in this spring's NHL draft.

The visit by Chiarelli at the team hotel came as a surprise to the soft-spoken Colborne.

"It was just like a talk between two of the guys," said Colborne after scoring a key goal in yesterday's win.

"They just wanted to get to know me and feel out what kind of guy I was. They seemed pretty happy."

As for Columbus, Howson isn't talking to Colborne right now.

However, the Jackets have the sixth and 19th selection in the draft next month.
