From: Hockey's Future
DU player Jesse Martin was listed as one of the Atlanta Thrashers Top 20 Prospects by Hockey's Future this week.
Jesse Martin was selected 7th round, 195th overall, in the 2006 NHL Draft.
As a freshman at Denver, Martin carved out a niche for himself quickly, playing on the second line and getting good ice time. The 5'11, 118-pounder posted 15 points in 41 games.
Martin was invited to attend Thrashers prospect camp the last two years, but Denver told him there was no point in going unless he'd make the team. Instead, they told him to stay in Denver and work out with his teammates at DU. That's what he did, keeping his full attention devoted to college hockey right now.
Martin needs to work on skating and projects as a checker. He’ll remain at Denver for the foreseeable future. Martin turns 20 next week.

I don't buy that Denver told Martin not to attend the prospects camp. Plenty of DU players attend NHL Prospects camps every year.
118 pounder......ouch, did Jesse go on the south beach diet?
Maybe Jesse should room with Colborne, because I'd like to see him get up to 125 maybe 130 by the regular season. :-)
DU's Roster has him at 180 lbs. but thats probably last season.
As for the Prospects Camp, their value is pretty minimal and NCAA players have to pay their own way.
Certainly his +/- numbers in the USHL suggest that he could have a big impact for the Pioneers this season.
Jesse had a very solid freshman season for our Pios.
Has grit, competes and blocks shots.
I look forward to watching his continued development...
In regards to Atlanta telling Jesse not to come to their summer prospect camp... IT'S TRUE.
I had Jesse on my show on August 12th and that's what he told me. I passed that tidbit on to Holly who wrote that piece for HF.
Here's the archived interview with Jesse:

It makes no sense to me why ATL wouldn't want a hand in developing a player but... perhaps that's why they're a bottom feeding team more years than not?
Guy,
Thanks for the link, I'll post it.
Regarding the NHL Prospect Summer Camps, from what I've read they aren't full workouts, hard core practices or development sessions. They're designed to just give players a taste of the NHL, tell the players what to work on during the season and meet and greet some people in the organization.
It might be interesting if you interviewed George Gwozdecky some time on your show and pose some of these questions to him.
We actually have had Coach Gwozdecky on the show in the past...
