The Pep Band Will Return To Hockey Games

Good news in the school spirit department. For the first time in years, DU's Pep Band will make semi-regular appearances at Denver hockey games this Winter.

The pep band will appear at 11 games this season starting off with a rematch of last season's NCAA playoffs against Wisconsin. (Full schedule below)

Its been a long hiatus for the Pep Band at hockey games (DU tends to use its band mostly for basketball) and many readers of this blog have long clamored for more "collegiate atmosphere" at Magness Arena. This is a big step forward for our fans and the pep band program, and should help provide a better atmosphere at the games.

While we're on the topic...
Please locate the band in the middle of the student section.
October 17 - Wisconsin
October 25 - Ohio State (HC)
October 31 - Colorado College
November 8 - Minnesota-Duluth
November 21 - Minnesota
November 29 - Air Force
January 2 - Holy Cross
January 30 - Alaska Anchorage
February 28 - St. Cloud
March 7 - Colorado College
March 13 - WCHA Playoffs

That is terrific news...they have been missed...hopefully it will get the arena rocking, just like in the old days when the band was on a small platform over the ice!

One thing that has been lacking in the past is the student section and the band working together on cheers and the like.

I hope that the students appreciate how effective they can be when the work together.

Also, its really nice when fans go by the band and thank them for playing before, during or after the game. :-)

Good news, but I bought season ticktes right next to the student section this year. Too late now

Great news and great for school spirit. Should help ramp up the atmosphere in Magness. I know from my time at DU way back that the players got the adrenaline going in warm-ups with the band playing songs that they requested

Very exciting development.

Hats off to DU AD Peg Bradley-Doppes and her team of hard-working pros.

We die hards have pushing this and other updgareds for a long time, and it's great to be seeing tangible results.

Ahh Crud! We usually lost when they showed up! :(

Only way this cheers me up is if they play In Heaven There Is No Beer.

DU pep 'band' is back, eh???

Wow. BFD.

They suck, always have sucked and I'm pretty sure will suck. Maybe the admin will realize this and bring a high school replacement band once again. They've done it twice with bringing in Aurora Central and TJ bands in the past. Pretty sad when you consider that DU has a music 'school' and has TWICE decided a high school program was better than what they could provide. No pep band should ever, EVER have to be mic'd in order to be heard. Oh, and just a little bit of talent would be nice for a change.

Pep bands are pase'...

This is horrible news.

I had a friend who played in the pep band from 70-72. Between periods they would go back to my apt in Murray Manor to get some liquid refreshments. Somehow, by the third period they sounded great. Also remember one time one of the members fell onto they ice because they were so drunk...ah those were the days

msbdu,
I must have been at some of those same games. The Pep Band was always better later in the game. Don't remember anyone falling on the ice. But I used to think I was going to fall down and roll down the steps from the balcony at the old arena. Maybe because we tended to get "primed" for the games.

This blog sucked when we started it three years ago. Today....not so much. :-)

DU hockey was in the toilet when Gwozdecky showed up on campus 14 years ago. Today....DU hockey rules.

If the band sucked in the past its the fault of the alumni and the administration. We need an electric atmosphere in Magness Arena to support our players and show off our great school.

Lets build & support a pep band that is worthy of our students and university.

Go DU

This has nothing to do with anything, but when I went to the mailbox Saturday there was a letter from CC Athletic dept. Of course my first instinct was to burn it on the front lawn. After calling out the bomb squad, I determined it was safe to open it. The letter started out thanks CC hockey supporter...I thought at first it was a cruel joke from some of my DU alumni friends but I later realized that I received the letter because I bought tickets to the DU CC game at the world arena. Great marketing effort on their part...DU needs to follow that lead

This is great news. A good pep band will help liven up a sometimes apathetic home crowd.
