George Morrison scored DU's second goal of the game in the 1969 National Championship contest against Cornell. The 4-3 victory is considered to be one of the greatest in DU hockey history for several reasons. It came against Cornell goaltender Ken Dryden, it was Murray Armstrong's last championship and it was Keith Magnuson's final game at DU.
Today George Morrison is battling a brain tumor, but his daughter Sloane wrote to LetsGoDU and said that George was "thrilled to hear of all the support and love," when we reported on his illness last month. She asked if we were interested in some photos from George's playing days at DU.....Are you kidding? We'd be honored to post them.
Get well George. Pioneer Nation is still cheering for you. And Sloane, thanks for sharing the picture and updating us.

Get well soon George.
When are you going to post the pictures? He was such a force on that team. Remember him well. Hope all goes well for him.
The photo above is the only one Sloane has sent me so far. She says she has others, but needs to scan them.
Looking forward to receiving them and I will pass along your interest and mine in seeing them.
we love you George♥
Rest in peace and keep sniping goals George.
We will miss you, forever in our hearts.

My favorite memory of George was in the final game of the 73-74 WHA season, George needed 4 goals to reach 40 for the year. Well, George got his four goals, and in great style as well, setting a WHA record for the fastest hat trick in league history - 43 seconds!
After the first one, he got the second some 16 or so seconds later and then he must have been stalling, taking nearly twice as long to net the third!
Of course, when you're hot like that your teammates will try to set you up for the rest of the night, especially knowing you need one more for the milestone 40th, which he was later able to get, joining Connelly (42) and Walton (57) as those who hit 40 for the Fighting Saints that year.
Sadly, that remarkable record died with the WHA and is a forgotten achievement today, except in the pages of an old media guide and a young fan's aging memory.
RIP George.
Great story.
I heard that George's hockey stick is in the hockey Hall of Fame for the fastest hat trick in history. Not sure if its the US Hockey Hall of Fame or the HOF in Toronto.
Anyway the history still lives on.
Best DU Hockey player I ever saw!!
