DU 5 UMD 1 Final

(above) Luke "The Goal Czar" Salazar led DU with 2 goals and an assist

DU defeated UMD 5-1 on Friday night in the first game of a two-game series. Luke "The Goal Czar" Salazar led the way with 2 goals and an assist in the 1st period. Also scoring for DU was Rhett Rakhshani, Jesse Martin and Tyler Bozak. DU led the whole way with Salazar scoring his first goal just over a minute into the game.

On a sad note longtime DU fan, supporter, head of DU's off-ice officials, DU hockey historian, storyteller and all-around good guy, Jim "Jimbo" White passed away last night after being ill for the past few months. Rest in peace my friend. We'll post more infomation about Jim as it becomes available.

I'm playing around with the Pioneer Vision I just loaded up, live video for non televised games, so I figured I'd post .... it works great.

(I'll be AT tomorrow's game!)

Chase.

We have a scoring thread for the DU games over at www.uscho.com for every game in their Fan Forum. There are several of us who post on there as we watch the games. Anyone is welcome to join us and it is free.

Rockin' thanks for the heads up! I'll check it out!!

The PioVision is pretty cool, too, with all games offering online video, it really did work for this game :-)

What's up with Colborne?

How sweet, a DU win and a CC loss

Colborne is playing alright.

With this team's firepower, Gwoz can ease Colborne into his role without too much pressure.

Nice win for DU last night. It was good to see them score some goals after struggling last weekend and get the early lead and not have to play catch up. Even with the early lead I thought they looked a bit sluggish and low on energy in the first 10-12 minutes and then got going.

To me the game had a strange feel--I didn't think either team played with much intensity. And the crowd wasn't really into it. It seemed both teams lacked energy. Regardless, I'll take a 5-1 win anyday.

UMD does look like a better team than last year. Last season their offensive strategy seemed all too often to be dump and chase and pray for a turnover. They look like a quicker team up and down the ice this season.

Re: Colborne. In my opinion, through 8 games this year, Colborne is a bit of an enigma. Given his status as a 1st round, we have to assume his potential/upside is huge. I think he plays too passive of a style, though. He needs to assert himself more, dig for loose pucks, crash the net, and play the body. Part of that is personality, but part is just the willingness to get one's nose dirty. I think if he's serious about his pro career, especially in the NHL, where guys who are 6'4 220 are everywhere, he'll figure out how to combine his natural talents with a more combative playing style. Just my 2cents.

BTW--R.I.P Jimbo. I didn't know him but he obviously meant a lot to the DU hockey community.
