The Clarion asked Chancellor Coombe questions about the recent layoffs & firings at the University of Denver. The answers were predictable, vague and at times contradictory.
Luckily "The Mouthpiece," Jim Berscheidt, was on hand to address the "recent decrease in staff in the Athletic Department."
Coombe made it clear that his buddies on the faculty would be the last to feel the pain of job cutbacks. Coombe's been a DU faculty member since 1981 and his recent track record proves his "Faculty First" policy at DU. It will be interesting to see how much money he can raise from disaffected alumni in the coming years.

Economy isn't affecting the layoffs? Then it is? Anyone else catch that?
Sure did. Glad you caught it as well.
Its kind of like having an overblown Diversity Program but not increasing the number of minority students on campus during his reign as Chancellor
OR
Claiming to "honor & respect the traditions and history of the university" and then dumping Boone because a couple of Faculty members object.
OR
Talking about "Genocide of Native Americans" and then having buildings or awards on campus named after alleged Genocidists.
Speaking of diversity. Does anybody have numbers on the diversity of the faculty?
DU has a hiring freeze so I guess the Faculty numbers won't be changing much, but I'm sure the "Champion of Diversity" will be feeling the heat to get the numbers up.
Here are late 2006 numbers, the latest ones I have...

It is a university, you know? It's about faculty and students, administrative positions are secondary...
