This classic wallpaper designed by DU Student Matt Bick has a classic old-school feel about it. Coach Murray Armstrong helped lead the DU icers to a 4 - 4 tie with the Russians 50 years ago. See the article below for the full story.
Great wall paper by Matt Bick. Classic photo of Murray at practice with the whistle always at the ready. Brings back lots of memories of the boys skating hard in practice, especially at the end of each session.
Murray was always so cool on the bench during games. He had his game face on and was always thinking about the match-ups. Never singled out or berated a player on the bench but would calmly tap a player on the shoulder and offer some direction. Always thought positively about the game no matter what the score was.
There was no video of opposing teams to watch before series or assistant coaches giving advice from the pressbox during games. All the coaching was done by him from the bench. The assistant coach would provide the bird's eye view in between periods so adjustments could be made if needed. A whole different game back then especially the way it was coached. A lot of the coaching was by feel, experience and knowing the capabilities of each player. It was a rare occasion in which an opposing coach out coached him.
