Gwozdecky Cops One Game Suspension From DU

(left) North Dakota didn't fall for the old "Talking Into The Shoe Trick"

The University of Denver has suspended head hockey coach George Gwozdecky one game for violating an NCAA rule that does not allow an ejected coach to communicate with or contact team personnel in any manner until a game is completed. [rest of story]

'not having a thorough understanding' of the game misconduct rule...HA! What a crock! He should be suspended another game for making asinine comments. ;-)

If Belding is such a good coach you'd think he'd know the rules a little better. What a tool.

Well, we know where those two comments came from - straight from North Dakota.
I am disturbed about the university's lack of support for Gwoz through all of this. The statement was enough. The one-game suspension was unnecessary. Makes you wonder who really made that decision.
Anyway, when Gwoz returns to the bench Saturday night, the fans should give him a standing ovation. Let's hear the chant "Gwoz, Gwoz, Gwoz" echo throughout Magness

You don't think he deserves a suspension for violating an NCAA rule? Really? WOW. And they say UND is shady...

Gwozdecky cheated. Period. Whether he knew the rules or not. And coaches will keep doing it, because a meaningless suspension against AA does not penalize anyone.

Can somebody explain why DU suspended him, and not WCHA? I am guessing DU had a purpose to do it before WCHA, but why is that good for DU?

It is obvious that the first two comments came from NoDak fans. I am sure that all other fans across the nation are okay with tGwoz breaking the rules. Maybe CC and AF will commission world renowned sculptors to create life sized statues in tGwoz's honor?

'not having a thorough understanding' of the game misconduct rule... That's about as bad (almost) as D McNabb not knowing that an NFL game could end in a tie. When tGwoz is sitting at home on Friday night, maybe him and Todd Anderson can have a little tutorial of the rules.

Mr. Gwozdecky is obviously a man of little honor. He sounds like a little kid making up excuses for his wrong doing. Apparently this conduct DU condones.

I'll make this simple:

Mr. Gwozdecky, you are a liar.

Are you going to do any article about the upcoming UAA v. DU series?

Gwozdecky probably deserves the suspension for what he did, but to call him a liar and a man of little honor is simply out of line.

He has been a coach for 15 years at DU and has been ejected twice from a game in that period and his manner is usually highly controlled. He is respected througout the hockey world as a coach who does have honor, and does things the right way. His program is run cleanly. His kids win, they do well in school, they graduate, and rarely run afoul of the law.

I'll take Gwozdecky any day of the week and twice on Sunday in comparison to any other WCHA coach in terms of honor and integrity of his program and his personal conduct.

Who's UAA?

Oh the team we're playing next week. Nah, that's Swami's department.

Puck Swami:

So...you're telling me that you believe he didn't know where the locker room was and that crossing the ice to ask the ref was his best choice?

And that he didn't know he wasn't supposed to communicate with the bench?

Instead of standing up and telling the WCHA what he thinks he comes up with pathetic excuses.

Like I said. Liar. Or stupid. Take your pick. Personally, I think he is a knowledgeable and decent coach. That's why I opted for the 'liar' choice.

Once he was ejected, he wanted an explanation why, something Anderson refused to give him. I think we was shocked to find out he was ejected, so he went walking on the ice to tlak to any ref who would explain it to him. Stupid? Probably. I am sure he wished he didn't, but I think he was in a state of shock.

As for the bench communication, I would imagine that he probably didn't give it much thought as to the legality of it, as he doesn't get ejected very often. He certainly should have known better, and that's why the school suspended him.

In any event, calling him a liar is an unfair assumption, as none of us know for sure what he did and didn't know.

Anyway, he is embarrassed by this and so is the school. Better decisions should have been made, but balanced against Gwozdecky's overall record of excellence, this little epsisode is but a small speck on the man's record.

Puck swami quote:
"I'll take Gwozdecky any day of the week and twice on Sunday in comparison to any other WCHA coach in terms of honor and integrity of his program and his personal conduct." OMG, this has got to be the most preposterous statement ever. I'm guessing it's a joke, just like DU's hockey program. Straight outta NoDak ladies. Suck it.

The guy does his balance beam bit on the dasher, waving his arms and yelling 'B*llsh*t' at the refs I don't know how many times...and then storms the ice because he is shocked and in need of an explanation as to why he was ejected?

Controlled...very controlled.

And 'didn't give it much thought' is very different from 'didn't understand the rule'. Which is it? Sounds like you agree that he was 'lying'.
