DENVER - Starting last fall, Denver University students living off campus near Williams street have had their homes broken into, and their electronics stolen. The victims share a common bond, almost all are athletes.
Joey Brehm was burglarized in November and again in December. The first time, while he was playing on the DU hockey team. The thieves stole flat screen TVs, video game systems, and iPods.
"Our whole street's been robbed, we have four or five friends that we know of that have been robbed," Brehm told us.
Ally Flury from the women's lacrosse team, and Peyton Sanders from the men's lacrosse team were also burglarized. They think someone is targeting athletes because their schedules are public so thieves know when the will and won't be home.
"I'm scared out of my mind, I've talked to my parents and my mom says you need to leave," Flury says.
"I'm more like ticked off, they know our schedules almost, it's almost like we're being watched." Sanders added.
Yesterday morning, four women from the ski team were asleep, at home, when someone broke into their house, reportedly threatening to kill anyone who looked at him.
All these crimes remain unsolved, and police are not releasing information about them. In fact, they are asking victims not to tell their stories or describe their attackers.
Denver University does not patrol the off campus area, but is taking pro-active steps to help students, advising them on how to secure their homes, and avoid crime.

Can you imagine what would happen to the thief if some hockey players caught you stealing their stuff?
Yikes.
Stealing??? Isn't a 'buglary' when someone breaks into your home and wakes you with a rousing round of 'Reveille'? ;-)
Thanks for catching the error.
Someone needed to commit "Buglary" on the DU hockey team in the Denver Cup.
Law enforcement is way too busy writing tickets on these streets. Protecting the public from over time parkers!
I was just mad that they didn't want to release any info they had on the perp. Channel 31 said the police department wouldn't give any info out. I live in Halls and walk down that street a lot so I'll keep an eye out for anyone.
Whoever is doing this is going their ass kicked by some angry students.
CO. has a "Make My Day" Law - you have a legal right to defend yourself from intruders breaking into your home. I would be more than happy to loan the athletes one of my 12 gauge shotguns. Just point at the assailant and pull the trigger. This will quickly nip this problem in the bud.
Maybe Gwozdecky should capture the burglar and take him to practice to teach the boyz how drive to the net.
This is a disturbing trend I remember a few new years eve ago when geoff paukovich and his gf womens lacrosse player Kelly Oconnell were robbed and kidnapped at gun point outside an area walgreens its becomming scary to live on campus as a student I wonder if it has to do with the light rail or possibly it is a group of students on campus?
