Should be an interesting weekend. At least the games will be on a real network, ESPN, instead of Fox Sports RM, which again showed its disrespect for DU by not showing the first part of Saturday night's game. DU fans should voice their displeasure to FSRM - call Amy Turner at Liberty Sports, 720-898-2718.
Good news.
All of DU's games for the rest of the playoffs will be in High Definition. I believe this will be the first time we've ever seen DU in high def.
If you are in here, you must enjoy hockey. If so, how can you ever support ESPN? I don't believe the state of hockey would be where it is today if ESPN didn't enforce this 'boycott' the last few years. In a lot of ways ESPN controls what the casual fan gets for sports information. They have all but eliminated hockey from the minds of the casual fan. They practically refuse to ackowledge any potential hockey stories as relevant. Seriously, Alex Ovechkin plays the game with the kind of passion we want in all of our athletes. He plays his game in the way all sports should be played. I'm not a big NHL guy and certainly not a Caps fan, but how can you not cheer for this guy?
No disrespect intended, I believe FSRM dropped the ball this week and I love the coverage that comes with being on ESPN, but please don't look for ESPN to help us out at all. The NHL has its own faults and the lock out hurt badly, but years later ESPN is a major reason hockey is where it is today.
Does Melrose even pay any attention to college hockey? He's barely prepared to even comment. How can he say DU just isn't playing well right now? They had one bad game without their top two centers and lost Testwuide who is clearly the leader of this team. Tough game, it happens. All things considered, I'd say they have done quite well to earn a number one seed.
Go DU!!
ESPN and Melrose did a fine job with the NCAA Selection show today. Hope that is a portent of things to come. Meanwhile, if the NHL high-balled ESPN in negotiations, how is that the network's fault? Going into the lockout, the NHL played hardball from a weak position and what does the fan get? VERSUS, with a hint of loudmouth Pierre (loves to hear himself talk)McGuire and NBC!!
Would love another shot at the Bulldogs--but Miami is tough, and I still remember Princeton coming into Magness and taking the Denver Cup and our tournament hopes with it. Should be some great hockey.
I just had a feeling that we would see Duluth again and to top it off we play our former assistant coach first. This will definitely be a regional DU will have to earn to win.
Hopefully DU took some notes Saturday night on how to play with intensity and passion. Only then, if they learned from their game with UMD will they move on.
BTW I'm looking forward to listening to Gary Thorn's commentary on the games. The man loves college hockey and I've always loved his coverage of the games.
I am sure his coverage will be better than what we had to endure Saturday night. Those guys just wouldn't shut up, to say they were annoying is an understatement
The announcers Saturday were like a couple of college kids on a podcast. Lack of professionalism was just the start...
seriously, who really gives a crap if the game is in HD or not. I could really give less of a shit. My eyes work just fine. Digital and HD technologies are just a waste. Kinda like HD audio...
That was a dumbfuck comment.
Wow, woohoo, DU IN HD FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Maybe someone should tell Coombe that our red tailed hawk is playing another red hawk. Could they be related?
Uh, that must be from someone who doesn't have an HD TV ... there is a huge difference. If you don't notice, then, no, your eyes don't work just fine old man.
Yeah, at first I thought, well the NCAA finally paid us back for screwing us in the brackets last year ... but then I look, Miami will be a stern challenge. Princeton is playing very well, and Minn-Duluth, we should beat them, but they are playing well above grade right now. We're going to need to work hard.
Maybe someone should tell Coombe that our red tailed hawk is playing another red hawk. Could they be related??
7:06....get your head out of your ass, dimwit. You are either a CC fan who is bitter about your team's finish, or your senses are about as sharp as the wart on your girlfriend's ass. Either way, do us all a favor and shut your mouth.
Friggin' Comcast does not offer ESPNU in the Denver area!!! Do you know if any local feed is going to pick up the Saturday night game, or for that matter the AFA game on Friday?
This is what we've been waiting for. Before the season I think a lot of hockey fans had DU finishing in the middle of the pack. They surged to 2nd place, had another shot at the Broadmoor, and earned a #1 seed in the NCAAs. That's a pretty good season. Now we find out if they have the mettle/fortitude/ambition to be successful in the most intense and high pressure of environments. I have high hopes.
