(above) DU student Doug Hirsh was the original Denver Boone from 1968-70
(above) Not sure about the era of this Boone. Perhaps our ever vigilant readers will know

OMG. That 80's Boone is hideous
I believe The Missing Boone - Boone head was the last one before his retirement in the late 1990s.
To me, the one picture in question sure looks like the picturesque, elaborate Gottelfield Room (sp.?) upstairs in the Ritchie Center - which would date the photo somewhat relativley recent. If that was the case - This could turn out to be like Elvis! But it's all water under the bridge now - there's a new Boone now, thanks to the efforts of many.
"You wanted the best - you got the best"!
The chairs in the room are modern to be sure.
Mascot & Student landed safely in Denver tonight.
Spent two full days with Scott Fuson in DC. This student is amazing in character. There's nothing he won't try and at times you feel like you're watching Charlie Chaplin.
That is definitely the Gottesfeld Room at the Ritchie Center, which would likely date the photo to 1998-1999, when the Mascot was retired, or afterwards if someone was just messing around with the head. This is the same Boone Head that now resides permanently in Penrose Library, and was last seen sitting on a memorabilia table at the DU athletics annual banquet last year.
Great job, DG. And good work, Scott! It's been awesome to see Boone out and about, and getting some great visibility. And Scott seems to have the kind of enthusiasm and spirit that we need. I couldn't think of a better way to reintroduce Boone to the world! Hopefully he's having fun at the lacrosse event.
I'd still be anxious to hear whether the DU admin has taken any position on allowing Mr. Boone into DU athletic events. If they are dumb enough to deny him entry into hockey games, the students should do a walk-out & see what that does to the atmosphere at hockey games!
I think he'll be allowed in to games, and I don't see DU standing in his way, as Coombe already said in his letter that students and alumni can use Boone "as they may wish", since he is part of the history of the University of Denver...
The interesting thing for will be what he is allowed to do inside the arena - will they let him on the ice or court? Or is he just allowed to walk around the concourse? What happens when Boone and Ruckus are in the same place? Will Ruckus be shelved?
New mascot was invited on the court at the tennis match today to help introduce the players and say goodbye to the seniors.
Mascot was very well received.
