Five Teams Still Chasing Bozak

(left) The stakes are getting higher in the Tyler Bozak shootout

According to a Canadian radio report, Bob McKenzie said that five teams are still in the hunt for Tyler Bozak. Ottawa, Anaheim, Toronto, Colorado & Montreal were the teams mentioned.

We know that Anaheim has had unbelievable success signing free agents out of college that have gone on to be very good NHL players. Anaheim spent a lot of effort wooing Bozak in the Fall and there is some thought that the Californian lifestyle might agree with our favorite puckster.

Montreal signed former DU player Brock Trotter last year and have been pleased with his progress.

Colorado certainly has never been out of the running and surely are looking for another Paul Stastny type player. Certainly Bozak was every bit as good as Stastny in college, if a little more dominant.

Toronto has the money and GM Brian Burke is looking to replicate his success at Anaheim. These college free agents are like free draft choices that can really pay off.

Ottawa spent much of last winter monitoring 2nd round draft choice Patrick Wiercioch at DU. Its doubtful that they've left any stone unturned scouting Bozak. Plus a free agent recruiting coup over bitter rival toronto would be great for civic morale.

Is a top player ever going to finish their 4 years in college?

These things ebb and flow. The AHL is no picnic and you can get trapped down there seemingly forever.

Best way to breakthrough to the NHL is to leverage your way directly from college to the NHL.

I would imagine that a lot times when you are able to make it out of the AHL you are pretty well beat up.

How many guys that left early lived to regret it? Paukovich and Dingle come to mind.

Playing hockey for a living beats working 9-5 anyday. :-)
