Nice to see Glasser, one of the hardest-working Pioneers, with an A this season. This year's team should be very well-positioned in terms of leadership.
Anyone know the status of Steven Cunningham? I don't see him on the roster.
I think that's a great point and a very legit question. Obviously the coaches know best, but I thought at the very least Tyler and Rhett should have been co-captains. Both guys are great, but isn't Tyler really the heart and soul of the team?
They are both great players as well as students. I think TR brings something special to the game. There is no question he is a leader. Nothing against Rhett, but I guess I assumed Ruegsegger would be the captain this year
Rakhshani was named captain back before the hockey banquet. No formal announcement was made for the alternates as they first appeared yesterday on the roster. Haven't heard anything on Cunningham or Guinn. Obviously with 2 scholie goalies in Chevy and Murray and Paulgaard being last year's #2, not much room at the inn for Guinn.
“Rhett’s skill level is second to nobody’s and his will to win is the same,” DU sophomore center Jesse Martin said. “We’re excited to have him back and with the ‘C.’ He’s a great guy and the kind of guy you can really lean on, on and off the ice, when it comes to leadership.” From Mike Chambers blog,
"According to the Wisconsin TV announcers Ruegsegger had Mono last season and played through it. Then he hurt his leg. He's probably going to need the whole offseason to rehab and the Captain needs to run practices over the summer.
DU's best captains under Gwozdecky have been extroverts and Rakhshani fits the mold." Words from our own dg on the USCHO thread.
DU's captains go through extensive leadership training in the classroom.
They also are responsible for running the offseason practices, extensive media opportunities, monitoring the [cough, cough] "after-hour activities" of the players, acting as a liasson beteen players & coaches and most important, represent the university in a classy manner.
Steve C. didn't too much ice time last year; maybe only a couple games if my memory is correct. Looks like it will be a competitive-minded locker room again. If someone wants a regular roster spot, he's going to have to show it.
This year we will have 6 seniors on the team compared to the last two years when it was 3 and 4. In'07 we had 7 seniors, but with the distractions of the Fast and Trotter departures. In '06 only 3 seniors.
Both of the NCAA Championship teams had 7 seniors. It would seem to me that with strong senior leadership and the talent on this team, the Frozen Four is on the horizon.
Holy jiminnee....With Chevy, The Norwegian Nightmare, and Adam "the fury" Murray... DU might just be on the brink of a goaltender dynasty. DU fans won't have to worry about thier goaltending for a long, long time.
Hey... who cares wether it's the mowhak-sporting "Norwegian Nightmare" or "the Fury".... backing up the Chevrolet?? Those 3 boys are capable of turning NCAA hockey.... as we know it..... upside down. The rock band KISS always opens thier concerts with, "you wanted the best; you got the BEST!"..... I wonder if the DU announcer will do the same? Talk to me 12 months from now when Denver has clinched # 8 !!!!
I can't tell you all how pumped I am for this season of Pioneer Hockey. This is by far the best team we've had in God knows how long. I have the utmost confidence in the team, and I truly feel its a national title or bust for this team. Denver is basically the Notre Dame of College Hockey. It's time we expect to be in the hunt every year. It's a great time to be a Pioneer, and as a Junior at DU, this may be the best chance we've got to get a title in my tenure.

Rhett will do a great job.
Rhett also went to that leadership camp/conference last summer in Florida.

Murray is the heir apparent to Chevy's throne -- Paulgaard is a junior now, too.
Murray is supposed to be a little rough around the edges yet but fantastic.
