(above) Two brothers have committed to DU and two more are waiting in the wings. DU's most recent recruit Nick Shore (16) poses with brothers Quentin (15), Drew (18) and Baker (9)
Mike Chambers of the Denver Post has all the details of Nick Shore committing to the University of Denver. Shore will most likely join his brother Drew on the DU team in 2010-11. This is a major commitment, on par with Tyler Bozak, Joe Colborne or Drew Shore in previous years.
Nick Shore spent the past season playing on the USNDP-Under 17 team with fellow DU recruit and future classmate Jason Zucker. DU's 2010 recruiting class will be anchored by two of the most exciting and talented forwards in the country, Zucker providing the speed and Shore the playmaking. Shore had 19 goals & 19 assists in 67 games, while Zucker chipped in 19 goals and 11 assists in 48 games.
Last season, Drew and Nick became the first brothers to play for the U.S. National Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. Drew was on the under-18 team and Nick on the under-17 squad.
Nick Shore is considered to be one of the top eligible American forwards in the 2011 NHL Draft.

D David Makowski (Green Bay, USHL)
F Nick Shore (U.S. Under-17)

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!
Already lookin' like an amazing class for DU!
Sorry, I can't resist...
We're gonna have some great views of the Shore Line in coming seasons!
That Shore is looking like a fine recruiting class!!!
This huge signing clears up DU's recruiting situation in 2010. DU has six Seniors graduating after this season and has five scholarships to replace.
Obviously DU has two serious "flight risks" in Colborne and Wiercioch and must be ready if unexpectedly another player or two leaves early.
Just speculating, DU may not need to replace Brookwell's defensive scholarship if they use it on an existing member of the team.
Almost certainly DU is still on the prowl for two more forwards for 2010. And they will need a forward and defenseman for 2011, who can step in early if Colborne and/or Wiercioch bolt early.
Good signing. I would imagine that Drew Shore being drafted in the second round really helped the Pios land brother Nick. Had Drew been selected in the first round, there likely would have been more pressure on him to sign after his freshman year, thus reducing the possibility of playing with Nick at DU. Being a second rounder means Drew will probably be around for two years, and get at least one season playing with his brother...Older DU fans will remember the Berry Brothers (Ken, Doug and Dave) that played at DU in the late 70s and early 80s) and the Anderson Brothers (Doug and Dave) who grew up with the Berrys in BC and also played at DU...
Ok, great signing, but we still need some more depth. Because we need to look at it this way by being very realistic. We lose Ruegsegger and Rakhshani, now Zucker and Nick Shore fill those holes which is great!), but being realistic we will most likely lose Colborne after this year, so there's a hole, lets say Knowlton surprises us like Salazar did, he fills that hole there. Then we still have holes to fill with the departures of Glasser, Gifford, and Vossberg. We still need 3 more quality forwards for next season. On defense I believe we're fine for 10-11. Even with the definite departure of Wiercioch and graduation of Brookwell. Because we have Makowski coming in and Ryder and Nutini sitting pretty. So we'll still be stacked at d, I don't even think we need another d for next season. We really need to think forwards for next year, 3-4 more before all is said and done.
DU won't have too much trouble attracting several more elite forwards who want to come to DU to play with Jason Zucker & Nick Shore.
Perhaps DU grabs one more forward from the USNDT in the next few weeks or else goes back to Alberta and British Columbia to fill out the roster.
DU had five potential flight risks this past offseason (Bozak, Ruegs, Rak, Colborne & Wiercioch). Unbelievably only Bozak left.
D-Rah!!!!!!
Great news for the Pioneers!
And a smile on my face.
This year the Ostrows; next year the Ostrows and the Shores.
(And where does Quentin play?)
Great news from the recruiting front.
Am I crazy to think that Colborne should and will stay for his junior year? Obviously Joe will do what's best for him and take the path that most facilitates his journey to the NHL--if that means leaving next year, then he's gone. And of course I'm biased and want him to help DU win. I'm no scout, but to me he is still years away from being a serious NHL player. He needs to beef up, work on his skating, and find a consistent compete level. He had a solid freshman year, no doubt, and I think he has the potential to be great, and if he has a terrific sophomore year that only adds to his legacy. But when I compare him other guys who left early recently, especially Bozak, Carle, and Stasny, those guys just seemed so much more polished and ready to play professionally. Right now Wiercioch seems ready to play in Ottawa's system and be a pro. I don't see that from Colborne yet. I'm guessing that as a #1 pick he wouldn't be happy leaving DU and then toiling in the minors for years while he waits for a chance to make it to the big club?
Quentin, is set to play for Angelo Ricci's Littleton Thunderbirds this fall and move to Ann Arbor the following year to play for the U.S. under-17 developmental team.
Baker has been invited to skip his second year of squirts (ages 9-10) and try out for a peewee double-A team (ages 11-12) this fall.
Don't forget...money talks. Colborne might get enticed by a fat contract next year, even if he ends up in the A.
Put a another feather in Gwoz and his staff's cap. Great job of recruiting.
Hey, Pios Nation: It’s Mike Chambers, the old black-and-white guy with the cigarette and Fedora. Glad to see LetsGoDU giddy today about today’s big news. Just wanted to remind you to share the wealth with your comments. My traffic can dictate future coverage. Thanks.
Actually, you're now seeing alot of the unsung efforts of Steve "OK, I'll cover for George since he got grounded from going berzerk" Miller! While this truly is another great commitment to DU ~ it also breeds more to come; there will be more big guns headed here in 2011 and beyond because of the great efforts put forth by George's recruiting staff. When a school starts boasting 8 and 9 time NCAA champions.... the talent will pour in, because kids will want to be associated with a stellar program - and that's what we're working with here... a Stellar program.
I have a very special, personal and sincerely heartfelt message to the Shore family: (as if you didn't know).... CC SUCKS!
We got Shores, they got no Moore.
Magness,
Ouch. Well played. :-)
DU keeps it all in the family...
The brothers Shore and the brothers Ostrow...nice.
