University of Denver students who attend both the women's basketball game on Wed., Nov. 18 and the men's game on Thurs., Nov. 19 will be eligible to win a FREE Denver hockey ticket against North Dakota this Friday or Saturday night. Both basketball games start at 7 p.m., and a total of 100 hockey tickets will be given away.

You dumbasses can't sell out a hockey game between two of the best teams in the country so you have to give away free tickets? LAME.
I bet it's going to be half Sioux fans again too.
Go away.
It's finals week here and the majority of the student population is leaving for home as soon as the tests are over. That'd be why we can't sell out the place.
And Anon...do you ever feel just a little bit sad that you get enjoyment out of coming onto someone else's blog and bitching? I mean really...is it fulfilling...at all? Or are you either that board or that stupid?
We've had this discussion a hundred times before. If you can't add anything useful, leave us alone.
Its obviously an attempt to fill a basketball arena, not a hockey arena. Do they teach reading comprehension in North Dakota?
Excuses, excuses out how many millions of people in Denver metro, you can't come up 8,000 who like hockey enough to buy a ticket. LAME.
Go away.
UND is in Grand Forks. LAME
Hahaha, I wrote the first comment as anonymous because I didn't feel like signing in
Anyways, to answer your question Anon, yes it gives me great enjoyment to come rip on a supposed hockey school that can't even sell out their arena between the top 2 teams in the country and HUGE rivals. I'm from Colorado but went to UND. I have a soft spot for DU but it's UND all the way for me. So yes, I feel I have the right to come over here. And I think its really LAME that with all the people in Denver you can't sell out what should be an incredible weekend.
Finals week is just a sorry excuse for your sorry fan base. Bunch of rich ass bitches that can't stay an extra 2 (TWO! I SAID TWO) Days for a great weekend of hockey. Tell their sorry asses to go back to the east coast where they belong.
Nomally - as is the case with most other hockey markets, fans will drive from other areas. You see this with alot of the colleges back east, the Canadian Juniors in the Ontario Province; and even in the NHL. The problem at DU is, sure; the CC fans are so close, but they're too stoopid to realize that long freeway with the white travels north and south and actually leads them right past Magness Arena.
1- we've had the attendance conversation dozens of times before.
2- we've had the "rich DU bitches" conversation before, in fact just a couple weeks ago during the UAA banter
3- Yes, it is lame that we can't sell out a 6,000 seat arena on a regular basis. Got any ideas to help? It's in the interest of college hockey. Otherwise you're adding nothing of substance and beating a dead horse.
Sorry Jordan,
Didn't mean to beat a dead horse. I only come around here when it's UND week or when another sioux blog links to you. If I were a student there and I saw that UND was coming to town I'd hang around for an extra 2 days. It's not like it's Thanksgiving weekend.
Here's an idea to sell out your games: Lock out the NHL...It worked before.
I agree that it sucks we can't regularly sell out, even for big games, the NHL lock-out season was different, so maybe too much for hockey fans to do? (although the Avs attendance has also been lame this year, so I don't know).
One point of clarification, finals are Fri, Sat Sun, Mon - although that wouldn't have stopped me, maybe they are more serious students.
Students and their families are shelling out up to $45,000 a year to go to DU now. And given the high cost, the need for return on investment is high and most of the DU students are much more academically engaged now than in my day as a student. They take finals very seriously.
Not only are they academically engaged, many of them are graduating into careers well beyond students at other institutions, including UND. Move this series over this past bye weekend and student attendance would have been much, much, much greater.
$45000.00 a year.....Wow........... you really are a bunch of spoiled brats...Everything said on this blog by the Editor and the 4 other regulars now makes sense. I'm sure your family trust funds make you feel better after the beatdown this weekend.:)
“I'm from Colorado but went to UND.”
I’m thinking Paul had a 2.0 GPA coming out of high school.
About 65-70% of the students at DU are on some kind of financial aid, and for many, that aid is extensive. That said, there are several thousand students whose families are paying the full pop at $45K. Either way, the kids on aid want to keep that aid, and many of the kids whose families are paying full pop get either a serious guilt trip from thier parents about the cost, or are otherwise self-motivated.
Just because someone has a trust fund does not make them necessarily spoiled, all though a few of them are.
At DU, the general student priority tends to be:
1. School work
2. Skiing (this is why so many choose to come to Dener)
3. Hockey
What every D-1 hockey school could use is another NHLPA strike. That will bring the ticket-buyers out of the woodwork!
Actually I had a 2.3 thank you very much.
Paulpuck,
You make some valid points in your earlier postings, but as Jordan and others state, this topic has run its course. It's been covered in many other threads and now it just turns into a dull recycling of the same previous points. If you talk to most DU fans they will acknowledge that the crowds at Magness can be fickle, school spirit lags, and the overall atmosphere could be better. But it's getting better, and it's a work in progress.
The fact is Sioux sports are the #1show in town, but DU athletics have tons of competition.
Seriously $45,000 a year(!) Is it different if you are a resident?
I have two siblings who went to Yale and it was only $30,000 a year and Yale is perennially rated as one of the top 3 schools in the country.
At UND student priority tends to be:
1. School work
2. Drinking
3. Hockey
The main difference is UND can sellout without the students because, as mentioned before, it is the only game in town. DU needs the students to sellout. Also numbers 2 and 3 on the above list can be accomplished at the same time, so it is very efficeint to attend or at least watch hockey games and have a drink or 20.
When did your siblings go to Yale? And the $45,000 thrown around here is not always the most accurate, as Swami pointed out a large portion of DU students receive some form of merit-based or need-based aid (scholarships, etc.). Face value, DU is as expensive as Ivy League schools, but what the average student pays is far less. I have friends that go to Notre Dame, which is within a few k as expensive as DU, but they pay sticker price, despite being in the top 1% of HS graduating class and great test scores.
I wasn;t just talking about tuition - I was talking total costs (tuition, room and board, books and fees, etc).
Yale currenty charges $47,500 for tuition and room and board to undergrads, and the total bill will easily top $50,000 when you add everything up.

DU's tuition is $34,596, room and board is $9,496 and fees are $885 making the toal $44,977 before books.
