Puck Daddy's College Coverage Features LetsGoDU

(above) Puck Daddy on Yahoo is considered to be one of the best hockey websites

When Puck Daddy was putting together its feature on the five best college hockey traditions they mentioned the Denver Cup as one of the best regular season tournaments. They also featured one of our most avid young fans in their feature (photo left).

Finally, they asked LetsGoDU five questions about the DU hockey team. We were only too happy to oblige.

Agreed with everything but the freshman D-

That group scares me a lot. Philips has gotten burned several times that have directly led to a goal. Step up or sit back, but don't go halfway in between. Puck control needs a lot of work. Lots of potential, but I'm scared for the current rather than excited about the future at this point.

I know that I am really dating myself, but in the old days we would throw a dead chicken on the ice, especially when a ref named Andy Gambuchi made one of his predictable bad calls. At one game I threw a dead squid from the student section, which was in the balcony. I was quickly escorted out of the arena. Ah, those were the days! I think were are much too PC these days.

It's somewhat saddening to admit... but, the DU-CC rivalry has indeed fizzled out, mostly because CC just continually year -after-year....flat-out sux. The big hockey ticket in Colorado now is DU-UND....Nov 20th/21st... the earth will rotate... here's your big money story line that week!

LOL: DU vs CC over the last three years: 1-7-4.

That's why it's fizzled - DU sucks.

But wait; the story takes an unexpected turn.... are my eyes deceiving me - or is CC #1 in the league this morning?

I would expect CC even at their worst, like they are, to win against the 3 worst teams in the league.

Of course, maybe they will be that one team that plays well when they have nothing to lose... no respect, no class, no dignity, no purpose in life... nothing :)

Congrats to the monumental achievement of claiming 1st place on the all-important date of November 15th. I mean, wow, that is just so fucking awesome that I think 'tig and dave29 just jizzed all over each other.

PS:

At least, when it all falls apart later this season, you could still claim that your kittens were in 1st place in mid-November....

msbdu,

I thought they threw the chiken on the ice when a player turned down a fight in the old days.

Other than a Detroit octopus reference, what was the significance of the squid?

We threw chickens on the ice in the mid-Eighties after the first goal was scored against CC. No one knew why, it was just automatic.

The best account I've heard in recent years is that perhaps it was to taunt CC who played their home games at the Broadmoor Hotel and it signified a dead swan from the Hotel.

Here's the best article written about the chickens from the CC point of view. Its a 2008 article from the Colorado Springs Gazette.
