DU is a horrendous team on Saturdays this year. This weekend was no exception, and every team is going to lay a big stinker from time to time.

They got the split they needed, and head into the break in First Place, and in good PWR shape, which is what we's hoped for.

Look on the bright side; atleast, they have to feel very confident going into the weekends and Friday nights. It would really suck to have terrible Fridays and good Saturdays. Atleast for the most part they go to bed Friday feeling good about themselves. But yeah, they need to learn to "scramble the eggs" for 2 days in a row....

Wonder what the Saturday slump will mean with split weekends in the WFDC and the AF/Mercyhurst weekend.

Interesting that the latest Pairwise has BC #2 & DU #3 heading into the XMAS Break. Needless to say the Denver Cup will have major Pairwise ramifications.

All in all a great first half of the season, but it wasn't short on drama. All the injuries and illnesses really took their toll.

Gwoz really emphasized the importance of staying in shape over break. Who can ever forget the infamous 2005-06 DU team that went home for break, never worked out and then dropped games against Princeton & Ferris State, then lost out on an NCAA bid by one spot.

Lets see if DU can overcome the 2nd half slump. Always seems like DU slumps a bit after the winter break (2nd half of the season).

I guess I wasn't shocked to come home last night and read that DU had turned in another lousy Saturday night performance. Seems all too familiar. I hope these guys can figure out how to be sharper on Saturdays when the season resumes. Still, the Pios did enough to earn a split on the road against a tough UMD team. No doubt the Bulldogs will be a team to be reckoned with as the season goes on.

Through the first 18 games DU has won or tied 13 and sits in 1st place in the WCHA--that's a darn good 1st half. DU has done a lot of good things.

A few things jump out at me going into the break:

1. A few hiccups aside, Chevy has been outstanding. He's proven himself to be one of the top goalies in the nation.

2. Rhett and Tyler have been terrific. No question these 2 seniors are going out with a flourish.

3. I think a healthy Patrick Wiercioch is critical. He has to get back to 100%, if he's not already. I just don't see DU being an elite team if Wiercioch is not in top form.

4. Score early and often!! DU has been playing from behind too much.

5. Where's the balanced scoring? I expect it will come, but there are some guys who need to start lighting the lamp more often. Maiani has 2 goals in 16 games, Salazar has 0 goals, Shore has 3--I expect these guys to start scoring more. And it would be nice if DU's 3rd and 4th liners could chip in more often. Glasser and Knowlton have a goal or two apiece, but I'd like to see Vossberg, Gifford, S. Ostrow etc. contribute a bit more.

Geez Twister,

If you don't attend, watch or listen to a game, why should we care about your analysis?
