Zuckers GWG Leads Team USA By North Dakota

(above) The US National Junior Team defeated North Dakota 4-2

The University of Denver had connections to two players on the U.S. National Junior Team and on Saturday evening both players played a prominent role in the USA's 4-2 exhibition victory over University of North Dakota. DU recruit Jason Zucker, who will join the Pioneers next season, scored the game winning goal and Freshman Matt Donovan was on the first power play unit and added an assist.

The USA's power play unit scored the first two American goals with Donovan on the ice for both. On the second USA goal, Donovan faked at the point and carried the puck low toward the dot and sent it to the slot, where Krieder poked it past Dell just as a power play expired.

Zucker scored the next goal on a nifty individual effort when he beat Fienhage at neutral ice to create a rush, then beat Dell with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle.

The final US goal was an empty netter.

Lol. I can't believe North Dakota lost. Nice to see our player/recruit getting some points. Hope Zucker and Donovan don't get cut.

did you think a banged up NODAK team was going to beat the best under-20 players in the country? i'm a sioux fan and i was not surprised they lost at all. bad for nodak, hopefully a sign the us team will fare better than in past years at the world juniors.

Wasn't John Moore the guy that renegged on his commitment to CC at the last minute? Too funny that Donovan is paired with him.

That has to be a little awkward, especially for the NoDik Freshmen & Sophmores.... seeing some of these college-bound boys, when they know they're going to thier opposing teams that they'll be playing alot. Zuck for instance..... how many more times during the next 4 years is he going to score on the Sioux defense???

I heard Moore was cut from the team.

Looks like you are right. Moore was cut today.

Merrill (USNDP), Faulk (USNDT), Moore (OHL), Ryan (OHL), Saponari (BU) and Wohlberg (Michigan) were cut from the team.

Zucker & Donovan are still on the team with just more players to be cut. Donovan & Zucker both played very well last night and looks like they will make the team (fingers crossed)

Why fingers crossed???

You count the potential(likely) BC game as crucial and Donovan would miss it.

Shouldn't you want DU to have their best team out there in such an important game?????????

Sheets.....

Anon--figure it out. Making the USA junior team is a huge honor.

Well, there is obviously the short term benefit of having an extra player for the 1 weekend. But having player's make the USA team reflects better on the entire DU hockey program.

Also, Kreider is on BC

We just gotta' train Donno to not push the net off when things get squirrly in the crease :)
I'da loved to hear the conversation between him & Marc after that.... Chevy was probably like, WTF Dude? I had that! Thanks!

Chev never had it and Dunny knew it was going in. Smart move on his part. It gave Chevy a better chance of making a save on the PS.
