DU 4 - Minnesota State Mankato 3 - OT FINAL

DU Scores With 13.3 Seconds Left In Overtime

It wasn't pretty and it wasn't easy, but the University of Denver clinched the WCHA regular season title in dramatic fashion on Saturday night in Mankato, Minnesota. Rhett Rakhshani scored with 13 seconds left in overtime on a backhanded shot past Maverick goaltender Austin Lee.

Anthony Maiani, Jesse Martin & Joe Colborne also scored for DU.

Next Friday night should be a big party in Magness Arena. The MacNaughton Trophy will be presented to the boys in front of arch rivals Colorado College.

DU fans are encouraged to wear white clothing for the "White Out" against Colorado College.

Jesse Martin with a goal. DU leads 3-1.

This team just gets it done even on nights they don't have their "A game."

Great win, great to grab the McNaughton, but keep your eye on the prize and don't overcelebrate. Remember Matt Laatch in 05 picking up the trophy, skating ot to the students then setting it down at center ice? Class!!! And it sent a message to the World that it wasn't the final goal, while CC ran around like idiots at the World Arena. Go Pios!!!!

I've never seen a more incompetent group of hockey fans in my whole life.......... one word, flameout!

Proud of the boys for getting the job done.

Very dramatic win in a place that has been tough on us over the years, as MSUM always plays us tough.

Winning the MacNaughton is a great achievement.

Let's get after the Gold Pan!

The way CC played UND tonight (I was down in the Springs for the "Axis of Evil" series), DU should have no problem getting AT LEAST 2 points next weekend. No emotion, Sioux fans probably accounted for 40% of the attendance, and PP was weeeeeak.

Not sure what DU's fans have to do with anything.

10 straight wins for the team, 13-1-2 since New Years.

DU now has:

13 WCHA Championships

14 WCHA Playoff Championships

7 National Championships

CC's "student section" maybe had 50 people in the stands for a WCHA rivalry game. Are they on break?

dggoddard said...

No. They are in the middle of Block 6 which ends on March 10th.

The "No Smoking Marijuana" rule in World Arena really hurts CC student attendance.

Friday night will be incredible, can't wait. How sweet would it be to be presented the MacNaughton Cup and the Gold Pan in the same night!

Beware of ND, as usual, they are coming on strong.

Umm,

According to WCHA.com, the official league website, this is DU's 12th league title...

Discrepency?

dggoddard said...

The DU Media Guide and LetsGoDU counts the 1958 WIHL Title as a "league title" since all the members of the WIHL became WCHA members.

There was no "league" in 1959 as the schools got into a fued and reformed as the "WCHA" in 1960.

If CC is going to claim the 1957 National Championship, we get to claim the 1958 league title.
