DU alum Paul Stastny's phone rings most every non-gameday afternoon, his father calling to converse about family, European politics and mostly about hockey, all in Slovak. His parents' native tongue is one of the three languages Paul speaks, and whether told in French, Slovak or English, the Stastny story is one that seems part John le Carre thriller and part Disney-style sports saga (read rest of article).

Though just a sophomore in high school, Alex Carle was named to Alaska's All-State Team this week. Alex comes from bountiful bloodlines and owns poise beyond his years. His oldest brother, Matt, is a defenseman for NHL's Philadelphia Flyers and his other brother, David, was on a strong career track before a heart condition forced him to retire the summer before he was set to play at the University of Denver.----------
The USA Under-18 team plays Belarus today at 10 AM MT in the last game of the preliminary round. DU recruits Jason Zucker and Nick Shore play for team USA. Canada was eliminated from the medal round on Friday after losses to Switzerland and USA. Canada plays Sweden on Sunday.

There's been some questions if DU could replace Colborne's scholarship with a recruit at this late hour. Ryan Walters scored 61 points in the USHL this season and was MVP of the USHL All-Star Game. He would certainly be worth a look if DU had any scholarship money left. 35 schools were after him three years ago.
