(above) DU recruit Jason Zucker will be playing in front of NHL Scouts this week in Belarus at the World Under 18 Championships for Team USA
Three DU recruits were listed by the Central Scouting Service final rankings of players eligible for the upcoming NHL Draft. Beau Bennett, Jason Zucker and Sam Brittain all made the list of likely players to be drafted this summer.
Incoming DU forward Beau Bennett rode a strong second half of the 2009/10 regular season to a share of the British Columbia Hockey League's scoring title, and the scouts noticed. On Wednesday, Bennett took a big leap up Central Scouting's final rankings for the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft, jumping from 48th to 32nd amongst North American skaters.
Forward Jason Zucker also moved up in the ratings from #55 to #51 among North American skaters. Zucker will begin play today in his second IIHF World Men’s Under-18 Championship. Zucker was also part of the U.S. National Junior Team that won the gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, Sask., in January.
Goaltender Sam Brittain was ranked #8 among North American goaltenders and is one of only two goalies in the Top 10 that will be playing NCAA hockey.
With their current draft ranking, Bennett, Zucker & Brittain likely will be selected when the NHL draft hits Los Angeles on June 25th and 26th.
