DU Alum Rhett Rakhshani was recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) by the New York Islanders. He played in Tuesday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks recoding two shots on goal in 11 minutes of action. Vancouver won 4-3 in a shootout.
Rakhshani, 22, led all Sound Tigers in goals (10), assists (22) and points (32) through the first 39 games of his rookie season. The Huntington Beach, CA, native’s 32 points lead all AHL rookies. This marks the second career NHL call-up for Rakhshani, who made his NHL debut with the Islanders on Dec. 13 against the Nashville Predators.

and he's -11. fyi.
Rakhshani leads the AHL in Rookie scoring and was just named to the AHL All-Star game.
10.54- What's your point?Sound Tigers might have a handful of guys that are plus. Is that how you judge that a player is sucessful? lmao.He is progressing nicely.
It shows that he's not a very good two-way player. That equates to very little success at the NHL level.
Isle's are the second worst team in the NHL. Not suprising that Shock-ronny would get whiff.
These comments are hilarious. Rhett is in the show, and you turds probably work the nightshift at Sonic. By day you sit at your computer with your dork in your hand.
At DU last year, he was Hobey finalist, a first team all-American, first team all-WCHA and the WCHA scoring champion, and all-Academic teamer who graduated with his senior class. And as a DU senior captain, he led his team to a MacNaughton Cup, and now has played in the NHL, a level that only .0001% of hockey players attain.
We should all have a resume that impressive at age 22.
2:20....you give new meaning to the term dimwit.
2.20/10.54 you seriously judge a guys ability by his plus/minus?
Catch him while you can, Okposo is practicing again. It won't be long an Shock-ronny will be back bouncing between the AHL and ECHL. And, yes, plus/minus is a legitimate stat. Rhett can score, but can he be a physical two-way player.....doubtful. I've never seen the guy check anything accept his hair in the mirror.
Can he skate?Yes.Does he have good hands?Yes.Does he have good hockey sense/smarts?Yes.Does he see the ice well? Yes. Good compete level.Needs more strength but not a glaring weakness. He's a rookie and his play in his own end will improve. That package has got him this far. He is not a 3rd line grinder.
Rhett was injured in last night's Islander game. He suffered a concussion. Here is from the Isles' Newsday blog talking about who practiced today.
"Recent call-up Rhett Rakhshani is not; he suffered a concussion in last night's game but, because of inclement weather, the Islanders have not been able to get him to a specialist yet to assess the severity."
Rhett played on the 3rd line last night with Josh Bailey and Jeremy Colliton.
Hey Puck,
By age 22. Nope, I'd be more impressed if he didn't fill out that resume until he turned 45. Senior Captain with all the honors at age 40, off to the AHL and then a trip to the NHL at age 45. Now THAT would be impressive!
Anon 3:57,
You sound like someone who can't stand seeing a DU kid get a crack at the big time. +/- is a legit stat, but anyone who knows hockey knows that it only tells part of the story and you shouldn't read too much into it. Classifying someone as a poor two-way player simply based on +/- is short-sighted. Furthermore, if Rakhshani can find his scoring touch in the NHL, he'll stick. There are a lot of guys in the league who don't throw crunching checks, but those guys excel in some area, whether it's scoring, on the PK, etc. Find your niche--that's the key.
Twister-well said, you are talking to obvious haters. Why try to educate them when they are obviously ignorant and dont want to learn? .
Let's face the facts DU homers.... If you spend 4 yrs in college and you're 180 lbs dripping wet, with average hands, a carrer in the NHL is unlikely. There is certaily exceptions, I just don't see Shonnyrock as the exception.
Spell much? He's getting paid to play hockey, something that you will never experience.
Not only does he get paid to play hockey, but he turned down the Islander's first contract offer as a DU junior because he wanted to graduate and be DU's captain as a senior. Not many kids turn the NHL down for school, but Rock did.
