NCAA Tournament: DU 3 - Western Michigan 2 OT

Trailing 2-0 with 5 minutes to play in the game, Coach Gwozdecky ordered a "Code Red." Kyle Ostrow soon thereafter nailed a power play goal to pull the Pioneers within one.

Then with two minutes to play DU won a faceoff and Matt Donovan nailed the one-timer home to tie the game.

In the second overtime Jason Zucker redirected his own shot that had been blocked into the net.  Zucker finished the game with a goal and two assists.

It's DU's turn to show what they got. I'll tell you this... they better be ready, they better come to play and they better come to win. This is what DU plays for... this is what matters to us.

DU is certainly due for a great NCAA first game performance. They really haven't had one since 2004.

In 2005, DU played poorly against Bemidji State but still won in OT, and went on to win a title.

In 08, DU got blasted by UW in Madison.
In 09, DU got shutout by Miami in Minneapolis.
In 10, DU got beat by RPI.

Time to show up today, boys!

In the playoffs, is it the standard procedure, as far as who can travel with the team? I wondered if any players are left behind in Colorado. Also - no Barry Melrose, please.

I think it is actually com cast 105.

Mike Chambers has an article about DU's policy. This week DU is taking Jesse Martin.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/sports/2011/03/24/jesse-martin-to-travel-to-green-bay-after-leaders-petition-school/16524/

DU takes 22 players. Third string goalies, injured players and guys down the end of the roster don't get to travel. In the past this policy has caused some hard feelings with the players and parents.

If DU makes the Frozen Four everyone gets to go.

thanks. So, can the player go on his own??? What if he "just by chance" is going to Green Bay this weekend with his Mom & Dad??? is that allowed?

dggoddard said...

Just like any road trip injured or not traveling players can pay their own way and travel with the team.

I think that Ruegsegger did it last two years ago when he was hurt.

UND thrashes RPI 6-0.

Just got a report that DU's Lax stadium is packed today for the game against Air Force.

DU leading in Lax over air force 10-3.

Any of you homos got an update?

DU down 1-0 again. We have got to stop taking stupid penalties.

The referees in this game are terrible. It's like they've never seen a physical team play hockey before.

Yes, I'm a homo - and I got your update right here.... Broncos up 1-0 after 2 periods. Here's my take so far on DU: some shitty penalty calls, The Broncos are rotating the forwards in DU's zone - which always gives DU trouble, no matter who it is or when/where they're playing... and Denver wasn't paying very well for 40 minutes. I think they (were) looking forwards to playing the Sioux - and WMU came out prepared to beat thier asses. Still, I'm confident Denver will come out for period 3 and send the Broncos packing...

CollegeHockeyNews.com will give you a live update on all the games. Also, the picture on espn3.com is pretty good.

Miami got knocked off by UNH 3-1.

Dont blame the refs. The Pios have come out flat once again in an NCAA game, and if they lose, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the update. Probably HE refs.

Anonymous said...

Good thing they dont have to play somebody good.

DU getting outworked and outplayed. Really disappointing performance so far.

As I mentioned in a prior post. It is nice to see that we won't have to worry about Denver going anywhere in the NCAA's. 5:00 to go in the 3rd and W Mich is blanking DU 2-0. Denver has no answer to W Mich's attack......

Same story, different year. These kids at DU are too worried about moving on to play at the next level and completely ignore NCAA postseason play year after year. DU is beginning to stand for Disappointing Underachievers.

This is getting old. Is there a problem with the coaching? gwoz can forget about re negotiating his conttact

Pops score on the PP 2-1 EMULATION w/ 4 to go

So Denver loses 2-1 instead of 2-0. I'm ok with that!

Anonymous said...

Ok, so you suck. DU ties it up. Donovan off of the faceoff.
2-2 now.

C'mon boys... lets do this for Jesse.

Today's game is being re-broadcast on ESPNU tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 3PM ET before the DU/UND regional final.

Pios get a W by their skin of their teeth tonight. DU wasn't sharp overall and looked listless at times, but they perservered. 1 down, 3 to go.

Huge challenge tomorrow vs the Sioux. Everyone needs to bring it and play their ass off. It's time for payback after last week's loss. GO DU!!!!!

Colorado College end their 53rd consecutive season the same way; with a loss.

UND hasn't beaten DU in the NCAAs in 48 years (1963).

DU is 4-1 vs UND in the NCAAs all time.

Time to keep it gping....
