Coach Tierney was clearly pumped up about defeating Duke. You really get a sense of the energy that he brings to the job.

Lots of interesting comments.

DU is pretty lucky to have two coaches like Gwoz and Tierney who are among the elite of their respective sports. That win in Bethpage over Duke was the best recruiting tool DU could have in trying to attract some of the premier high school players from Long Island. All the high school players know who Tieney is from his roots on LI as well as his coaching success at Princeton. It was hard to get a kid to go to an Ivy League school 2 hours away from home to play Lax. The high school players really don't know a lot about DU. That game just put DU on the map in the largest hotbed of high school lacrosse. A brilliant stroke of genius by Tierney to give up a home game and open up some eyes to the DU program in an area that DU has never really gotten any players from.

That should be "It wasn't hard" in the 4th line above.

Interesting comment about last week.

"There were 5,500 of the 6,000 fans in attendance didn't have a rooting interest in the game. Towards the end, we had won them over and they were cheering for DU."

Kind of sounds like Boston 2004...

Headlines 101--don't confuse the reader

It's a "DU Victory" or a "Victory over Duke" but not a "Duke Victory"
...I almost skipped over what turned out to be one of the best DU lax wins in history.

If you really listen to Tierney, you can understand why he's the John Wooden of college lacrosse.

He understands that having talent is one thing, but the human skills that gets that talent and work ethic to mesh together and to understand the psychology of a young athlete's mind is incredible.

All DU coaches should be learning from this guy - becuase he is, in his sport, what all the others are hoping to be in their sports.
