In a surprise move the Florida Panthers have dealt DU goalie alum Marc Cheverie to the Phoenix Coyotes for center Justin Bernhardt, who has yet to play an NHL game. Bernhardt will most likely begin the season on the San Antonio Rampage, Florida’s new AHL affiliate.

Cheverie was supposed to be one of the Panthers’ three young goalies at this week’s Rookie Tournament Camp along with Jacob Markstrom and Brian Foster.

DU alum Kevin Dineen was the longtime coach of the Portland Pirates before taking over at Florida this summer.

Phoenix just announced that the Portland Pirates are their new AHL affiliate.

So it looks like Chevy may be heading to Portland.

Again, Chevy heads to a crowded youthful goaltending situation in Phoenix, with Mark Visentin, Mike Lee (SCSU), Louis Dominigue, Scott Darling (Maine), and Brett Bennett (BU/Wisconsin)

Should have stayed in college

Chevy took a full load of classes throughout his three years at DU, plus some summer school, to earn his degree early. His degree was in finance and he is a very smart kid.

When he's through playing he should be able to get into any grad school in the country.

Phoenix's rookie camp starts Saturday. Visentin and Dominigue were the goalies listed on the 8/31 roster

With that full load of classes, I hope they taught him to never sign a long term lease on a Condo!

Any grad school looks like he will attend University of Phoenix to me.

It's obvious Anon 11:00 didn't attend grad school.

What is Angelo Ricci doing these days?

dggoddard said...

Angelo may be one of the best youth coaches in the country.

He currently is the Director of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Thunderbirds, a nationally recognized elite AAA hockey program in Denver. Many of his former players are in the DU recruiting pipeline.

He also runs Ricci Hockey Consulting, which focuses on skills and stick-handling for over 1,000 youth players each year.

Ricci was one of my coaches growing up. He is a solid coach but I viewed him as being very selfish and hot headed. One year he let a kid play for the team because the dad owned a dealership and "leased" him a Lexus for the year

Here comes College Football season! Congrats are in order for Conor McGahey for being selected as one of the CU Buff's announcers. You probably don't know his name, but if you've been to almost any DU athletic event or Avs game in recent years, you know his voice! He is the primary PA voice of DU Hockey and he invented the phrase, "PIIIOOOOOONEEEER GOAL", that sends Magness Arena into a flipping frenzy!
He is an Alan Roach Protege...As far as PA sports announcers, we've got it pretty darn good here in Denver when you think about it.
Good Luck, Conor! (As far as I know, he will still be sharing DU Hockey microphone duties with JoJo this season)

If anybody has a chance this weekend, watch NHL Network for the Traverse City Prospect Tournament. Kyle Ostrow will be suiting up for the Columbus Blue Jackets, as well as many other familiar names over the past few seasons.

Did former Fighting Sissy goalie Genoway get any net time today? (Isn't with the Wild program?)

Anonymous said...

Are you drunk? Exactly which Genoway was a goalie? I don't seem to recall.

Anonymous said...

Let's hope he was drunk. Everyone knows the sissy goalie for

Anonymous said...

Oh crap. Now I'm drunk. That second sentence was supposed to be deleted.

The greatest Fighting Sissy goalie of all time - Ed Belfour.

But maybe you were thinking of defenseman Chay Genoway that was just signed by the Wild.
