DU Hosts McGill In Exhibition Opener On Saturday

The University of Denver hockey team opens the exhibition season on Saturday night at Magness Arena against McGill University from Montreal.

Puck drop for the exhibition tilt will be at 7 PM.. The game will be webcast live on Pioneer Vision, while live stats and live in-game blog are also available at DenverPioneers.com.

Tidbit Trivia: On March 3, 1875 the first organized indoor game was played at Montreal's Victoria Skating Rink by several McGill University students. In 1877, several McGill students codified seven ice hockey rules. The McGill University Hockey Club - later re-christened "The Redmen" - was founded in 1877, arguably making the McGill Redmen the oldest ice hockey club in the world still playing.

Will be interested to see the opening lines tonight. Gwozdecky usually goes with the same line combos to open the season, but with two exhibition games a week apart that may not be the case this year.

Will any of the Freshmen [Looney, Larraza or Doremus] crack the second line pairing with Nick Shore and Beau Bennett?

I'd think tonight they definately start Murray as Goalkeeper, maybe run him 30 or 40 minutes, see how he's doing, then maybe run Olkie for the remainder of the game??
NEXT week, for sure run Murray the whole 60 minutes to prep for regular season opener at Boston ??

McGill is the defending Queen's Cup Champion (Eastern Canada title) and has 21 former Major Junior players on it's roster.

Academically, McGill is the Harvard of Canada, with long an proud tradition of ecxellence.
