this is pathetic...what is wrong with this DU team?

Missing Bennett last two weekends has been huge.

Zucker's game has been way off compared to last season.

Offense, Defense & Goaltending, PP & PK have been substandard.

Can you say spanked? o-9 on the PP for the weekend.

UMD played a flawless road game and DU was a no show.

Ugly game. Big players need to make big plays. Zucker needs to get it going. Missing #9. I thought Makowski played like an animal though. Small bright spot. Some huge saves by Olki in the 1st period.

The team lacks confidence right now. They are fighting to make plays. The big guns aren't scoring and they aren't winning the one-on-one battles that decide possession, and in turn, dictates who wins and loses. The whole team is in a funk right now. The PP is a disaster and it killed them this weekend.

This CC game will likely be the game that either gets them back on track again, or slides them deeper into problem territory.

Win the little battles, and the game usually goes your way.

I remember a story about Knute Rockne after the Irish got their butts kicked. A fan approached the coach and said "you guys stink." An angry Rockne asked the guy if he'd bought his tickets. The guy reached into his coat pocket and produced a handful of stubs. Rockne said: "you're right, we stunk." That's DU right now, we stink. I don't know what's worse, blowing a two goal lead twice, at home, to settle for a tie. Or getting shut out at home. Let's hope Gwoz can figure this out and soon.

this ...is not a good team. Or at least, it's not as good as it thought it was.

Get mad. Do what it takes.

I thought it was special, and highly-indicative.. for Jason Zucker's both parents and grandparents to be with him on psrents night. You will NOT see them on the next parents night at DU, I guarantee you that much

What do you mean by that 12:39? Zucker's family has to do with the DU team's slump. Nothing whatsoever...

The whole team is slumping, not just Zucker.

It happens and is part of sports.

Hopefully, the coaches and captains will find a way to get the train back on the tracks. They have a week to prepare for CC, and hopefully, they will play more effective and inspired hockey...

Needless to say, a very poor weekend for DU. The Pios were subpar in all phases. The effort/compete level just wasn't there, and neither was the execution. There are too many guys trying to make the individual play instead of playing team hockey. Jackson, Shore, Lee and the other leaders on this team need to step up and set the example.

After the 3-1 start this team is now winless in 4 games. Need to right the ship quickly, with a very talented CC team on tap.

@ 1:13 - no I didn't mean that whatsoever! Just making an observation - that this is Zucker's last year in College. Nice to see his family here for it. Too bad it was a loss. I also noted Sam Brittain's parents must have not came to town for the weekend.

We, as fans, have come to expect greatness here - which I guess is good. Let's rally behind the team now, and let's NOT become like the Tebow and Broncos bandwagoners who bask in the victory, and bitch and hate during the low times

Does DU actually practice special teams? Geez, the PP is putrid.

Zucker has been very undisciplined so far this season, taking bad penalties on a consistant basis. Although fans have screamed about poor officiating, most of the calls on Jason have been legit. He needs to get his focus back on what he does best. He is a great athlete and a great scorer. Focus on that.

Another pathetic, outing by DU this weekend only leaving with a point. Now yes we know that UMD are the champs and they defiantly showed us why. However, this DU team has way too much talent for them to just roll over and take it like they did this weekend... especially last night. After Zucker messed up that penalty shot I looked at my sister and told her three things... game is over, they will score the next goal within minutes and someone will get hurt. All three happened because when you miss a golden opportunity like that it messes with your team mentally and it easily showed in the 3rd. Also the undisciplined play we've seen lately is inexcusable to.

Oh and if Zucker thinks he's ready for the NHL... HA! He's not going to make it very far.

So we have CC next week... should we be worried?

Hey did Mermis ever go back out after the big hit he took? You know you it was a hard check when the building maintenance people and the trainer get involved, and the refs are picking shit up off the ice afterwards.

We will handle CC no problem at all they are pathetic

Jason Zucker is a talented, highly skilled, and fiery player. Unfortunately his fierceness sometimes works to his detriment. Remember last year when Gwoz sat him for jawing at the ref?

He's got to find the balance between fire and consistency. Not let his frustration blur his focus on how we know he can play. Just has to get it under control.

I still anticipate seeing those highlight reel moves and goals.

Yes, Mermis skated after the incident with no apparant after effects.

There you go again 2:23. You said the same thing about Duluth, Tech and every other opponent we have had.

Slumps have to almost every team over a long season. The important thing is to work your way out of it.

I think DU will be fine, but they need to work harder to win puck battles, trust their teammates and play with discipline.

DU needs to move their feet!

MOVE YOUR FEET!!!!

I agree, it wasn't DU's best weekend. You guys need to lay off the judgement of Zucker! He's a big star which does mean he gets watched a lot more but I hate to tell you, big stars have bad days and tough patches too.

Anon 9:03.. I agree with you on that one with Zucker. He is going through a rough patch these past few weeks but he will be back. He is DU's best player and he will show when he gets out of this minor slump.

Zucker is an amazing talent and a fearless competitor. I'm sure he, along with his teammates, will right the ship sooner rather than later.

DU has played a grand total of 8 regular season games, not even 1/4 of the schedule. There will be plenty of opportunities to work through this rough patch, starting with this Sat night. I expect the Pios to come out flying and put forth a really strong effort.

Lots of blame to go around on PP. Mostly poor decisions by both George & players. Suggest George use two balanced PP units that compete for PP time. Whichever unit is having more success becomes the first unit on the ice and gets more PP time. This can change from game to game, period to period. This will force good decisions from players. Forwards down low are making bad decisions and taking too many low percentage shots, not moving the puck to the D-men quick enough, not moving thier feet, not rotating positions around the perimeter, showing little patience. DU needs some grit in front of the net. Suggest planting a big body like Jackson in front of the net which ties up an opposing D-man, screens the keeper and creates a 4 on 3 and more room for perimeter guys to operate. Work the puck to the D-men for shots from the point and redirect in for some dirty goals. You'll never see 17, 23, 9, 18 standing in front of the net taking a beating. Too many "skill" guys on the same unit. Mix some skill, size & grit for two balanced PP units. Also DU shold use #15 down low and not on the point. DU has plenty of D-men to man the point and need goal scorers down low.

Agree last year they had K Ostrow in front of the net at the end of the year and he wasn't the biggest guy but stood in front took the beating and deflected a bunch of goals in. Stick someone in front who will stand there. Put Jackson or Ostrow in front and let the d shoot the puck with a good screen. Need some greasy pp goals
