Sam Brittain Q & A

Sam Brittain, the sophomore goaltender for the University of Denver, is gearing up for a return to the ice this weekend after spending the first half of the season rehabilitating from surgery to repair his knee. Brittain suffered the injury in the WCHA Final Five game against the University of North Dakota on what seemed like an innocuous play, but eventually cost him not only 20-plus games for the Pioneers, but also a unique chance to play for Team Canada in the World Junior Championships.

Hockey's Future asked Brittain 15 questions about his injury, his future and goaltending.

I wonder if Sam will start tonight or perhaps play a "mop up" role this weekend.

From the Denver Post article on getting Brittain and Ryder back:

"Sam will be a backup for one game and may play one," DU coach George Gwozdecky said. "It might be where Sam doesn't suit up at all (tonight) but either play or be a backup on Saturday, or visa versa. But for a number of reasons, it's beneficial for us to have him on the trip."

Personally, I think that if there were a perfect weekend to ease Sam back into game action, this is it. None of the craziness of CC, Minny, or NoDak...a team DU should be able to score on, AND one that shouldn't put too many pucks on the net...Ryder coming back to shore up the defense.

If DU is going to make their 5th consecutive national tournament, the pieces have to start falling into place tonight....
