The University of Denver jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second period on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.  After that the Wisconsin Badgers went to work and came away with a relatively easy 5-2 victory.

Terrible DU defensive effort. What the hell? Thank you Shepherd and Hunt for another outstanding job behind the whistles. :(

Ouch. DU drops to a two-way tie for 11th in the Pairwise.

Pairwise is a fickle beast.

Mankato ties Duluth, so DU only two points out of 2nd, but UMD has tiebreaker over DU.

DU was due for a stinker, and UW was due to break out of a scoring funk. In the WCHA, you should be happy with a road split. DU got one.

Now the Pios have to take care of business vs UND.

The Shore brothers didn't show up, again.

Um. What? Drew scored a goal? I know it would be nice if they scored a hat trick every game, but I'm still okay with Nick and the two goals he scored at the end of regulation and OT to sweep the Gophers.

Down to 12th in the PWR. Hoping for anything more than a split with UND is probably not realistic. Definitely possible to sweep, but not something to expect. A split will probably drop us further in the rankings.

Losing any games in the first round of the WCHA playoffs will probably drop us about 5 places in the PWR after the loss (if the Wisc loss is any indication).

I think we are in a position of needing to split this weekend, sweep 1st round of WCHA playoffs, and then win a game in St. Paul depending on who the opponent is.

We got our work cut out for us. I foresee hours being spent on the USCHO pairwise predictor and having to root for teams like Bowling Green to beat Miami, or Quinnipiac to beat Cornell.

Wow! Talk about the negativity here...haven't you people learned it isn't over until it is over?!?!?!?!? Last Saturday's game against MN proved that. DU is also up from 17th in PWR. I agree with DG it is fickle and there are still 4 games before WCHA playoffs any way! It ain't over til it's over!

My post above (11:49), wasn't meant to be negative, this weekend just gave me a bit of a reality check. I was feeling comfortable after being 7th, but it's apparent that you can drop like a rock in the PWR even this late in the season after a loss. And, edit to my post above, I wasn't thinking about the finale in Omaha and failed to mention that series. Obviously, we will need at least a split there.

I think this team can, and WILL advance to the NCAAs. But, it's not going to be easy and we have to take care of business the rest of the way. The margin for error is essentially non-existent.
