The University of Denver and Michigan Tech played a thrilling back-and-forth brand of hockey at the Xcel Energy Center in the opening game of the WCHA Final 5 playoffs. Juho Olkinoura made many key saves in the third period to keep DU in the game.
Ty Loney open the game with an early goal for DU to stake the Pioneers to a 1-0 advantage. Michigan Tech scored later in the period to tie the game at one.
DU drops to #12 in the Pairwise Rankings after North Dakota defeated St Cloud State 4-1 on Thursday night.

It's good to be a Pioneer!
Terrific win. "Juicy" was great. And for the umpteenth time this year, DU just refused to lose.
Of far, far less importance, but nevertheless satisfying given the last couple of days: a certain CC poster was lurking around on the scoring thread, waiting to stick the needle if Tech had won. Scrolled down after the win and he was gone, postless. He'll have to wait another day. But he's got time, lots and lots of time.
DU sure is sticking to the script laid down last week against Wisconsin.
Wait for the Goal Czar to save the game and then win it with a last minute goal.
Sweet sweet victory! Hopeing for a repeat tomorrow.
It's nice to see that the posting restrictions have been lifted. Maybe if we all behave it won't happen again?
Nice to see Zucker put it away. I hope all you Minn-a-so-cold fans enjoy him..... we sure have! Don't get too excited though - there's lots of DU hockey yet to be played. And how about that Luke Freaking Salazar!!! Go DU
Beating Duluth on friday would be nice but I guess if we dont it would not change much
Hee haaa! Nice win. Salazar, Zucker, as usual, and Loney was outstanding. If Brittain falters in the next game, and if we make the ncaa's, Gwoz is gonna have a tough choice with respect to the goalie. Jussi (please don't call him juicy, that's just weird) is playing as composed as any veteran. Go DU!
I'm quite sure Gwoz isn't losing sleep over our goaltending...Sam, Jussi....wow, we have amazing goaltending
Gwozdecky says, "We are in it to win it."
One down two to go.
Are we on the bubble again? Looks like after UND's win, we are in a tie for 12th place in PWR.
I'm pretty sure that UAH loss is killing us!
Let's just go with Land Shark ... Finn's Up!!
Good win for DU today, but the Pios look tired and very banged up.
If we lose to UMD, I won't worry at all. This team really needs some rest for the next tournament - the one that counts/.
Where would DU stand in the PWR if a wind replaced that awful loss to Alabama-Huntsville? Obviously higher that T-12, but how much?
Zucker's overtime goal was set up by a huge hit along the boards by Daniel Doremus that allowed Zucker to be wide open for at least three seconds.
As the Tech player struggled to recover from the hit and get back into position, DU had a virtual five on four. Joey Leggs pinched in and had to deliver a pass through traffic to Zucker.
This is why puck moving defensemen are the most valuable and rare commodity in college hockey. There's only a few guys in the college game who could deliver that pass to Zucker.
It looked like Leggs pass was slightly tipped and Zucker one-timed the puck that was six to eight inches off the ice top-shelf.
The hit, the pass & the shot. Three remarkable plays created the game winning goal.
Don't worry about the Huntsville loss. If they take care of business this weekend and win the Broadmoor, DU will jump six to nine spots in the Pairwise Rankings.
A loss to Duluth today or to anyone in the Championship game and they will stay around #12.
I agree that a middle aged man calling our goalie "Juicy" is a tad creepy. Beyond the sexual, doesn't it have a negative connotation? "He left juicy rebounds"
How about we just use his name?
