UPDATE: NCAA Suspends Kerdiles for One Year - Sconnie Appeals

University of Wisconsin star recruit Nic Kerdiles didn't suit up for the Badgers exhibition game on Saturday while the NCAA sorts out the status of his eligibility.

Chris Peters from the United States of Hockey Blog reported that the NCAA investigation stems from potential violations discovered through social media.

Sources told Bucky's 5th Quarter that the situation started because a photo on Twitter of Kerdiles out to dinner after the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh with sports agents from Pulver Sports.  Kerdiles deleted his Twitter account in mid-August reportedly because of the NCAA investigation.

I am sure that will get sorted out soon. A meal with an agent is hardly much of a violation.

It doesn't sound like much, but its the NCAA and the rule is very specific.

"Student Athletes are not permitted to accept benefits from agents, such as money, meals, clothing, hockey equipment, or other things of value."

This would not have been an issue if the photo had not of appeared on Twitter or Facebook.

NCAA just gave Kerdiles a 1-year suspension and Eaves announced that they are appealing it.

That looks like a delightful meal of clams and white wine. Simply lovely!

There must be more to it than a agent meal to get a 1 year NCAA suspension.

I would guess he'd to to the WHL vs sitting out a year.

One year is about what I'd expect the penalty to be.

Clearly the [Cartman Sourthern Accent] Student Athlete [/Cartman Southern Accent] didn't know what he was doing when he posted the photo on his Twitter account.

IMO its is going to be tough for Sconnie to overturned this on appeal.

Some may recall that DU sent Derek Lalonde to Ottawa in 2008 to keep an eye on [make sure no WHL double-crossing/backstabbing] Joe Coborne.

Are we taking odds on what program ratted him out after seeing the photo?

Bucky's 5th Quarter has the photo taken at the dinner plus a Tweet & photo of players holding cans of an energy supplement product.

I'm going with a Canadian Junior team being the rat.

If that's true, its very dirty.

MJ teams will always try and prey upon naive kids who don't understand all the rues.

Also...Keith Seabrook got played for a fool when he ended having to go MJ...

The picture with him holding the energy supplement which was posted on Pulver Sports is far more damning to the NCAA--product promotion by an amateur athlete. The agent should have known better.
