Stalock shut out Sound Tigers 3-0 last night and Scott was -1 with 3 shots on goal. If someone told you Donovan and Mayfield were playing in the same game and one of them had a fighting major, who do you think had the fight? If you guessed Mayfield, you were wrong. Donovan had a fighting major in the last minute of the game to go along with a cross checking penalty in the 1st period. Apparently he didn't like the elbow thrown at him towards the end of the game and dropped his gloves.

With all the concern about concussions, I'm just amazed they continue to allow fighting in the AHL/NHL.

Beau Bennett with his 3rd goal of the season in last night's Pens win.

It's beacuse you don't understand hockey. It allows for the players to police the game. There would be more penalties if players didn't fear having their teeth knocked out for being a little bitch on the ice.

Additionally, the fans would not stand for it.

Yeah, how's the system working, anon 10:40? Because you never see cheap shots in hockey, do you, thanks to that policing. And in the meantime, the fighters are getting brain injuries and having horrible lives when they retire. Opponents of fighting in hockey understand hockey just as much as anyone else. They just realize what a stupid and outdated aspect of the game this. NHL fans that also enjoy WWF wouldn't stand for it, everyone else would.

I go to a half dozen AHL games a season and the fans [all 500 of them in a 18,000 seat arena] love the fights.

To me it looks like a painful exercise bashing your knuckles into the side of a hard plastic helmet.

Fighting in a professional sports game (any game) is stupid for a myrid of reasons. This self policing argument is nonsence. If it works then why don't they allow it in the N.B.A. which occassionally has serious flagrant fouls, or the N.F.L. ,also the same. It's canadian culture that we don't need to import.

1:45, no, he wasn't talking about the NFL or NBA. He was talking about college hockey where fights aren't allowed and the number of serious injuries resulting from cheap shots is 10-1 that of the NHL.

Where do I get that stat you ask? My ass, I pulled it out of my ass.
