Two DU Recruits Listed In Final Draft Rankings

Two University of Denver recruits were listed among the Top 200 North American skaters Wednesday with the release of Central Scouting's Final Rankings.

Defenseman Will Butcher was listed at #87 after being ranked at #170 in the Mid-term Rankings.  That will likely project Butcher to be a 4th to 7th round selection at the NHL Draft this summer.

Incoming DU forward Trevor Moore was listed at #192.

Current DU forward Quinten Shore was listed but not assigned a ranking.

Former DU defenseman Dakota Mermis came in at #95.  Defenseman Gage Ausmus who reportedly decommitted from DU after Coach Gwozdecky was fired was listed at #148.

Off topic ... There are still tickets for Saturday's noon lacrosse game at DU. Temps will be in the 70s, sunny weather, could be a most pleasant way to spend a spring afternoon.

We don’t have to worry about these guys jumping to the NHL. The team should be joyfully mediocre for years to come.

Maybe Monty can attract a few "bad boys” from North Dakota that are looking for scholarships.

Hire a coach with 2 DUIs and North Dakota kids are the bad boys? DU has been nothing short of laughable. Which kid gets to drive Monty to practice?

Aren't the North Dakota players always getting arrested and passing out in snow banks with frostbite? That's the word on the street. CC--I won't even get into what THEY are known for.

If there is ever a time to be OK with nothing having first or second rounders on the roster, it is now. Happy to get quality players, but I hope DU can be a leader in the new style of recruiting that will ensure talent, junior and senior leadership, and stability on the roster.

Wondering, though, why Butcher is relatively low. I could have imagined this, but wasn't there talk here about him being a 2nd round pick?

Butcher had a great season stats wise but the 5'10 191 lbs. caught up with him.

If he'd grown three inches this year and put on 20 lbs. it would be a different story.

He'll still be drafted and he's the kind of player that a team might take chance on in the third round.

Is the idea that they’ll stay … because they have nowhere else to go? Get a degree because you’re not the caliber of player that can ever turn pro. Sounds like the NCAA commercial "There are over 400,000 NCAA student-athletes, and most of us will go pro in something other than sports."

Air Force makes it work, why not DU?

Almost all DU players turn pro.

The problem is that if you recruit the players that Air Force recruits you'll never get out of the NCHC basement.

DU needs elite platers or they will get crushed my Miami, North Dakota, St Cloud, Duluth, UNO, WMU & CC.

That was how Gwoz looked at it. We’re under a new regime now.

What's the word on this fall 2013 class? Butcher and Moore aside, the individual stats aren't gaudy. Is this potentially an impact group?

Anon 10;!!
yes it is an impact group simply because they will all stick around for the full four years. The results will show when they are juniors and seniors

It looks like the players that are left and the new recruits are undersized. Does high impact mean they are going to take a beating until the trainers get them bulked up a bit?

Most DU players turn pro and have excellent careers in the ECHL.

I watched the Wild/Avalanche game tonight. What a fantastic array of college and more specifically WCHA and DU talent. The idea of not selecting the best players because they may leave early is ridiculous. As ridiculous as DG's scouting report earlier this season that "Jason Zucker isn't ready for the AHL let alone the NHL."

Hey Coach:
Notice your pipeline is lacking D men - - that 4-time USAH Dev Camp, now prep school 5'11" 195 lb d man from NJ is still avail -- - although you may have to pry away from ECAC (where academics matter more...)

Any news on Ausmus? I can't find that he's committed anywhere else, so this hopefully seemed like a "keep the options open" type of situation.
