Zac Larraza will miss six to eight weeks, Brad Hawkinson will miss the entire season and Emil Romig has been suspended by the NCAA for eight games.

Ouch.
Rough way to start the Monty Era.
Injuries in any practice are pretty lame. Probably the worst DU practice injury was in the mid 90s, when Brent Cary broke his neck.
Besides George Congrave, of course...and I think Barry Sharp's injury may have been during a practice...but Brent Cary's had to be the worst "modern" injury
Speaking of injuries, after the NFL settlement, law firms around the country are evaluating suing the NCAA for concussion after-effects.
Ice hockey, boxing and any other sports with incidents of concussions could be dragged along for the ride.
The concern here is the roster size is too damn small.
I can see who Monty might want to sit on a couple schollies for a year to not waste them in a rebuilding year, but this team was a bit short on bodies before the injuries.
12 forwards for the first 1-2 months? Ugh.
Monty may want to rethink his statement about being in the hunt for a National Championship this year. Putting your job on the line in pre-season takes guts but may not be the brightest career move.
In all fairness, the roster was minuscule when Monty was hired.
I don't recall him saying a NC this season was expected, just that he has placed an expectation to capture one while at DU.
Stupid post 12:30. Saying you plan on being in the "hunt" for a national championship does not put your job on the line or make you look foolish if you don't win one.
Regardless, I think you are referring to his recent quote that he expects to win conference and national championships during his tenure. Not specificially this season.
Either way, your comment is stupid.
You should really read that article again 1:18. Gwozdecky won two National Championships and 443 games in 19 seasons for the Pioneers.
Was DU hockey a disappointment the last five years? "You know what? I can't answer that," said Montgomery, but then he gave the tough question a go. "They had some successes. But I think ultimately you want to win championships. And I don't know in the last five years that they've won championships...."
Does he expect to win conference and national championships?"Both," Montgomery replied, without hesitation.
Yeah, good luck with that!
DU HAD a coach that not only won two National Championships, he also got them to the playoffs every year. Peg and her superiors said that they wanted more. So why would they settle for a re-building period. Three years, five years, a decade? Monty has gotta get it done now or he'll be looking for an assistant coaching job in the NHL himself.
Let’s be realistic. If the boys don’t make don’t have a winning season and if they don’t make it to the playoffs (and they probably won’t) then all the sportswriters are going to have a field day. They are going to go over the same ground that everyone already has about the stupidity of firing Gwoz. And rightfully so. Is Peg going take any of the blame? Hell no! It’s not her fault. Nothing is HER fault. The honeymoon will be over and poor ‘ol Jimmy will be left holding the bag.
Don't blame Jim. Fire the DOPPES.
Gwoz wasn't fired for his record, folks. He was fired for his.contract and his personailtity...,
Is losing Larraza that big a deal? Sure some of the clowns here will miss yelling inappropriate ethnic slurs ... Viva! But his play was rather hit or miss. On Friday he was usually a hit. On Saturday he often looked slow and sluggish. Is conditioning an issue?
What about Hawkinson? Are we rushing these kids into the program before their bodies have matured?
Didn't anyone look at where Romig played? Who is in charge of that? Jeez!
They tossed Gwoz and paid him for an extra year. Now that was some shrewd negotiating! Whoever is running the Athletic Department needs to take a management class. If they handled things appropriately, Gwoz could have gotten them to the playoffs again this season and/or they could have gracefully transitioned if he wasn't successful.
Herb Brooks may have pulled off a Miracle but he was a pain in the ass to deal with.

@4:38 Larazza had a bum knee all year. if DU had the depth, he would have missed some time to heal up a bit. He gutted it out and gave us a solid season. Your comment was uninformed blather.

Looks like Romig played in both Austria and the Czech Republic before coming stateside.
Google could have answered this for you in like 3 seconds, bro. But whatever...
So the athletic department doesn't do any research as to eligibility? I mean if you could look it up in 3 minutes on Google, you'd think DU might be able to determine if the kid is eligible to play.
Didn't they have a kid that was ineligible because of grades earlier this summer? How hard is that to check?
Come on people, get your act together.
Son of a Bitch; this shit's never gonna end is it? By my recollection, Montgomery just way-laid every other USHL team there is, and of all those Coaches of all those USHL teams, he's the only one who left the league carrying a Championship Trophy; which by the way, includes LaLonde and Carle. Can't argue with #1.
And let me tell you something - if he stood there on Media Day and DIDN'T expect a National Title for DU Hockey - I would sell my tickets and never go to the arena again. He damn well better expect to win a Championship!!!
I know Monty is new but shouldn't he be on top of whether these kids are eligible to play?
Dude. It's not a big deal. Anytime that you bring in a Euro, there are obstacles with the NCAA. 8 games is nothing. DU had a couple Euro players who had to sit out a year. Bemidji brought in a Euro a while back who was only given 2 years of eligibility ( former Pio Anders Bjork's brother).
Chill out and get a grip...
Olkinuora had to sit for 4 games due to eligibility issues. Should DU have skipped Olki because of that. Only a jackass would say "yes"....
Actually, let me rephrase....Only an overstuffed colostomy bag of a jackass would say "yes"....
Anon 8:05 sounds like old pio
You both need to get a life!
How many forwards are left?
There is not enough depth on this team to be competitive all season. We're looking at a precipitous fall in a rebuilding year 7th place and a .400 league record.
Lack of depth has been harder to overcome for DU in the past few seasons than lack of skill. Not good news.
