Cocky Mav's Coach- "All the Pressure is on Them (DU)"

A boastful Coach Mims can't wait to get his boys to Denver because it should be easier than home field and DU doesen't get tested much.

All the pressure is on them,” Maverick coach Jason Mims said. “For us, it may not be as stressful as being at home. The guys had midterms this week, so we can get out of town and get some rest.”

"They (DU) don't get tested a lot"

Mavericks are relaxed heading into match with unbeaten foe
Denver is one of three unbeaten Division I teams left in the country, has a 25-match streak without a loss at home and is celebrating homecoming this weekend. That could all work in UNO’s favor Saturday night when the teams meet in Denver in a match with huge Summit League implications.

The No. 8 Pioneers (10-0-2) are 2-0-1 and lead the league with seven points. UNO (7-3-1) is 1-1-1 and in third place with four points and two league matches left after Saturday.

“All the pressure is on them,” Maverick coach Jason Mims said. “For us, it may not be as stressful as being at home. The guys had midterms this week, so we can get out of town and get some rest.”

Not too much rest. The Mavericks have gone 2-2-1 recently and saw their 12-match home winning streak snapped by Western Illinois, so they need to get back on track.

Denver and UNO have split the past two seasons. Mims said they match up well, which makes it fun.

The Pioneers move the ball well and are a possession oriented team. The challenge for both teams will be trying to control the rhythm of the game.

Where Denver really shines is on defense, Mims said. The Pioneers have given up seven goals while scoring 21.

“They don’t get tested a lot,” he said. “They have the ball a majority of the time, so they limit teams’ chances. We definitely need to create chances and scoring opportunities to put pressure on them.”

Mims said it’s great for the Summit League to have a top 10 team. He just doesn’t want the Pioneers to win this showdown, not if the Mavericks are going to earn the regular-season title, or at least a share like last season.

“If we can steal some points on the road,” he said, “that would be great.”

Omaha Relaxed Heading to DU

DU should have moved up the start of this Omaha game to 4:30 pm instead of playing at 7 pm, so more DU hockey fans could have attended (DU vs MSU is the same time).
